An Annoyed DeSantis Tells Students They Can Remove Masks, Encourages a Stop to COVID Theater

Maintaining his status as America’s governor, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has gotten to a point where unnecessary COVID precautions aren’t getting any more passes. No one can blame him. He’s been on the forefront of leading against them, which has brought untold hatred down upon him, which he’s expertly slapped down and fought back again.

At this point, seeing them on kids at this point probably gets his blood boiling.

In a recent video that was released, DeSantis was set to give a speech at the University of South Florida concerning funding for cybersecurity education, according to WFLA-TV. Before he gave the speech, he saw a handful of students standing behind the podium — all of them wearing masks.

It was a scene that clearly annoyed DeSantis, and he told the students they should remove the masks, as they’re effectively useless and the “COVID theater” needs to stop.

“You do not have to wear those masks,” DeSantis said. “I mean, please take them off. Honestly, it’s not doing anything and we’ve gotta stop with this COVID theater. So if you want to wear it, fine, but this is ridiculous.”

During a rant about the left’s attempts to cancel Joe Rogan in early February, DeSantis made his opinions on masks very blunt:

You look to see masked jurisdictions do no better than unmasked jurisdictions. All the things they’ve said. It seems like you wait six, 12 months and then basically the narratives blow up. Now they will never go back and admit they were wrong. They will never go back and do a mea culpa. It’ll just move on to the next thing and craft the next narrative.”

DeSantis is correct. As even many leftists have begun admitting, masks are merely decorative face coverings that do little to nothing against a virus that, at this point, is more of an inconvenient nuisance than a dire pandemic. Forcing students to wear masks is a highly contentious issue across the nation, and parents watching DeSantis stand up for kids will likely further endear him to everyone but the left.

It’s highly unlikely that his annoyance was with the students themselves, but more so with the fact that they were likely told they need to wear masks and felt coerced to do so by someone else. The overall culture kids are forced into, where they’re told masking up is required by both the rules and in order to be considered a good person, is enough to get annoyed over.
