Democrats are showing us what their law-and-order would look like.
The city of Portland, Oregon, has been in the news quite a bit lately due to the number of riots driven by hard-left groups such as Black Lives Matter, and the resulting rise in crime has opened the door for a stark rise in murder. July was a busy month for homicide detectives according to recently released numbers, and according to those numbers they haven’t been this busy in decades.
As my colleague Nick Arama reported earlier today, the number of homicide investigations in July is a number not seen since over thirty years ago:
Portland had a higher number of homicides in July than they had during any other one-month period over the last 30 years. There’s also been a surge in assaults, burglaries, vandalism and shootings.
As of July 30, 15 people were killed in Portland in July alone, according to the Oregonian. They’ve already had 24 killings for this year. There were 63 shootings so far this month compared to 28 in July 2019, according to the Police Bureau, more than double last year.
The number is shocking but probably not surprising. Portland’s riots aren’t happening in a vacuum. The ongoing lawlessness has been borderline applauded by Portland’s Democrat leadership, specifically Mayor Ted Wheeler, who has run defense for the criminal element currently tearing his city apart.
And when I say “run defense” I mean that he’s trying to do his level best to make sure the criminal element in his city is kept safe from law-and-order politicians such as President Donald Trump, who sent federal agents into the city to defend federal property.
This protection from the law is happening on two levels. The federal is just the first, but the Democrat-run city of Portland is also protecting criminals from its own police force as Arama noted in her own article:
This followed the City Council voting to cut $15 million from the police budget acceding to the leftist push to defund the police, including cutting the Gun Violence Reduction team which went into effect on July 1. The Police Chief Chuck Lovell said that this was forced by the Council and that it has hurt the police ability to do follow up investigations. In response, he will be pulling officers from the detective division to assist.
Democrat leadership is becoming synonymous with murders, destruction, looting, and more. The city of Portland has devolved into a hotbed of crime as its leaders do everything in their power to keep criminals from justice, making them almost complicit in the crimes themselves.
This is just Portland.
Imagine this on a much larger scale. Imagine if the highest offices in the land were devoid of law-and-order leadership. There need to be lines drawn but if there are no leaders there to draw them, what happens?
Let’s say Joe Biden gets elected. Will he stand in the way of the destruction? So far, it seems his reaction to the riots has been…nothing.

As calls to remove statues of former U.S. presidents and even Jesus Christ come, presumptive Democratic nominee for the 2020 presidential election Joe Biden has remained silent on the issue, even after his campaign was contacted about the matter.
The Daily Caller reached out to the Biden campaign and asked them if the former vice president agrees with the Democrats who want to tear down statues of George Washington, Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt and some depictions of Jesus. The campaign was given over 24 hours to respond to the inquiry. They did not do so.
But he has spoken out against the response to the riots.
According to Biden, these “peaceful protesters” in Portland have been assaulted by federal agents:
We have a president who is determined to sow chaos and division. To make matters worse instead of better. We all remember the appalling scenes in front of the White House, when peaceful protesters were gassed to make way for a Trump photo op. Now Homeland Security agents — without a clearly defined mandate or authority — are ranging far from federal property, stripped of badges and insignia and identifying markings, to detain people. They are brutally attacking peaceful protesters, including a U.S. Navy veteran. Of course the U.S. government has the right and duty to protect federal property. The Obama-Biden administration protected federal property across the country without resorting to these egregious tactics — and without trying to stoke the fires of division in this country. We need a president who will bring us together instead of tear us apart, calm instead of inflame, and enforce the law faithfully rather than put his political interests first.
Biden and the Democrats aren’t concerned about protecting you from the mob. In fact, his first and foremost worry is to protect himself from the mob by protecting them in the same way Wheeler is.
Putting Biden into a position of leadership would be like putting the fox in charge of the hen house who is working closely with the wolves. Government agencies won’t just be obeying Biden, they’ll be obeying the mob that controls Biden. If the mob wants to destroy, then Biden will do what he can to facilitate that lawlessness.
It’s Portland today. Don’t think it won’t be your city tomorrow.
