As of Tuesday night, the number of Coronavirus cases in America has gone past 1,000.
According to Fox News, at least 28 deaths have been reported so far with many large-scale events across the country being canceled and health officials warning against attending any that are still on schedule.
Fox News reported that Michigan has already reported its first cases:
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, D-Mich., announced the state’s first cases on Tuesday night and declared a state of emergency “to harness our resources across state government to slow the spread of the virus.”
One case is an adult female from Oakland County with recent international travel and the other is an adult male from Wayne County with recent domestic travel.
“It’s crucial that all Michiganders continue to take preventative measures to lower their risk, and to share this information with their friends, family and co-workers,” she added.
The spread of the virus has quickened according to reports, with 100 new cases being announced on average every day since Saturday. Over 100 people have tested positive for the virus in New York, California, and Washington State alone.
In New York, Gov. Andrew Cuomo sent the National Guard to form a one-mile “containment zone” around New Rochelle on Tuesday in order to limit the spread of the virus. According to Cuomo, New Rochelle is the largest cluster of Wuhan virus cases in the U.S.
White House officials are advising the avoidance of large crowds, and to discontinue typical niceties such as shaking hands.
“We would like the country to realize that as a nation, we can’t be doing the kinds of things we were doing a few months ago,” Dr. Anthony Fauci, a top official at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases said during a White House press briefing.
