In a stunning move of common sense, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) banned political protests by athletes while they compete during to 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. While the rest of the world is happy to hear that, and all the attention can go to the sports and peak athleticism, the sports world’s chief SJW, Megan Rapinoe, is angry.

I mean…she’s a social justice warrior and their default setting is “angry” but I digress.

Taking to Instagram, Rapinoe posted a picture of the raised fist of protest inside each ring of the Olympic logo with text that read “so much being done about the protests. So little being done about what we’re protesting about. We will not be silenced.”

Sports Illustrated posted Rapinoe’s post to Twitter.

According to CBS News, the IOC has stated that protesting for a political cause or party could result in disciplinary action:

“We believe that the example we set by competing with the world’s best while living in harmony in the Olympic Village is a uniquely positive message to send to an increasingly divided world,” the IOC said in a statement. “This is why it is important, on both a personal and a global level, that we keep the venues, the Olympic Village and the podium neutral and free from any form of political, religious or ethnic demonstrations.”

The IOC went on to say that the mission of the Olympics is to foster togetherness and understanding throughout the world through competitive sportsmanship. As we all well know, politics is divisive by nature, but divisiveness is what Rapinoe is known for.

While she says she’s protesting in the name of good causes, she puts forth a level of blatant disrespect for those she feels are her enemies and spits in the face of those willing to even give her a stage as she did with Sports Illustrated.

The problem is that while Rapinoe thinks she’s being selfless, she’s actually being completely selfish. Peole work tirelessly to make it to the Olympics to compete, and Rapinoe and the social justice brigaders like her have no right to walk in there and make it about anything else. What’s more, the cause is never truly the thing focused on, it’s the protesters.

In the end, it won’t be about Rapinoe’s cause, it’ll be about Rapinoe, and the protests will be covered extensively while the games go on under its shadow. It’s sad to think that some of the greatest moments of a person’s life, and moments that they worked so hard to achieve, will take a back seat because someone with an inflated ego and sense of self-importance decided to use the platform as a way to make a political statement.
