Imagine working so hard on something original and groundbreaking for two to three years only to have all the recognition go to someone else simply because of their identity.
As I wrote earlier today, that’s happening once again as celebrities and online keyboard warriors complain about the lack of diversity in the nominations at the upcoming Oscars.
I have to ask what it is exactly that they have to complain about. They’re successful, recognized, and have all the fame and fortune they could ask for without winning a golden statue. Not only that, I can’t help but notice the “still not good enough for us” mentality when it comes to the category currently under fire, “Best Director.”
Famed South Korean director, Bong Joon Ho, is currently in the running, making the “Oscars so white” complaint unusable here, but now the problem is the lack of women in the category. Women directors haven’t really made anything of note in 2019, but they don’t seem to care. Directors don’t have to be good at directing, they just have to be born with certain body parts, and apparently that qualifies you for recognition.
I could go on about how what the wokescolds are asking for is actually unfair as they push aside talent for identity, but I think it should be recognized why they think they need to do this.
Hollywood is filthy with celebrities who believe they need to use the platform they’ve been given in order to push for social change. While accepting awards, they even admit the fact that they believe it’s their duty to speak up and push for this or that cause.
Just like George Clooney did during his acceptance speech in 2006, where the guy said he was “proud to be out of touch” because Hollywood leads the charge in important social movements.
They think they’re setting an example for us. As South Park’s Trey Parker and Matt Stone pointed out, this is so smug it could choke you.
The people in Hollywood continue to demonstrate the idea that they think they’re the example the world needs to follow, and in light of the things they’re guilty of, this idea is sickening.
This is the land of pedophiles and serial sexual assaults from the likes of Kevin Spacey, Harvey Weinstein, and Roman Polanski. This is the land of radical feminism and the glorification of abortion. This is the land of junk science and political correctness.
This is the same ridiculous place where just a few days ago, Gwyneth Paltrow released a candle she titled “Smells Like My Vagina,” which apparently smells as described. This is being sold from Paltrow’s “Goop” store, which has tried to sell things like jade eggs that you put in your vagina. Paltrow made the claim they increase vaginal health and the pleasure of sex, but gynecologists were quick to jump in and tell everyone not to do that and that there is zero science to back up Paltrow’s claim.
Paltrow’s jade egg can be a nice little metaphor for Hollywood. They claim something is good for you, but there’s not really any evidence supporting the fact. They just feel like it is and without waiting for proof, they just commit to it.
Ergo, it’s hard for me not to feel a little insulted whenever Hollywood deems it necessary to preach to me. It’s apparently difficult for the rest of you as well, seeing as how popular Ricky Gervais’s Golden Globes opening monologue was.
These people are in no position to be an example for anybody, yet they believe that they need to put up this massive front about inclusivity. How could that be when they’re desire to be inclusive is only for shallow things such as sex and skin color.
If that’s the metric they want to stick by, then no matter who they present it’ll never be enough. People will begin asking why there aren’t any trans people in these categories, or paraplegics, or people suffering some sort of disease, or people from single-parent households.
God forbid you see anyone with a diverse opinion, though. That’d be crossing the line.
For an inclusive bunch, they’re some of the most exclusive people I’ve ever seen, and this is just one more thing we can toss into the hypocrisy column.
And these people believe they’re our moral social superiors.
