Failed Texas Senate candidate and failing 2020 Democratic primary candidate Robert “Beto” O’Rourke is an odd duck and it shows. Between the weird videos of him doing random things like getting a dental appointment and his attempts at trying to be edgy — “trying” being the operative term here — he’s not coming off as a particularly stable candidate.
His stability issues aren’t helped by his apparent lack of consistency when it comes to the issues. For instance, his beliefs about people’s rights sat one way when he was trying to get elected in Texas, and another now that he’s running for President.
For instance, O’Rourke recently said that he wanted to institute a mandatory buyback program for your AR-15. It’s a move that will essentially force you to sell your gun back to the government and be paid for it with your own money. O’Rourke believes this will make us safer.
“Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47,” said O’Rourke during the debate on Thursday, and even tweeted that phrase out for emphasis.
Hell yes, we're gonna take your AR-15.

Funny enough, that wasn’t O’Rourke’s stance when he was trying to get elected in Texas. As discovered by Daily Wire’s Ryan Saavedra, during an interview on the Chad Hasty program in Texas, Hasty asked O’Rourke why people shouldn’t own AR-15’s. O’Rourke corrected him, saying that they should own them.
“To be clear they should have them, if you purchased that AR-15, if you own it, keep it, continue to use it responsibly,” said O’Rourke.

Confused? Don’t be. The simple answer here is that O’Rourke has been trying to appeal to the radicals that have taken ownership of the Democratic party, and as such, his sudden turnaround on AR-15 ownership isn’t a surprise. He’s just saying what needs to be said in order to appeal to what he thinks is his base.
This is evidenced in a lot of things. O’Rourke was only too happy to use the shooting in El Paso to accuse Trump of all sorts of things when the spotlight was inevitably put on him since El Paso is his hometown. Where the world saw death and blood, O’Rourke saw a political opportunity and took it.
It’s a disgusting moment, but it highlights that O’Rourke is an opportunist who will say what he thinks will get him approval points.
It also makes him a complete fraud whose true beliefs aren’t really clear to the people.
