The Simpsons Create Cringe-Worthy Anti-Trump Segment Where He Runs from "The Squad"

The Simpsons, once a bastion of wit and humor, may have gone full cringe as its latest episode features Donald Trump in a musical number running in fear from “The Squad” then having a dance-off with the 2020 Democratic candidates.

The video is a take on “West Side Stories” hit song “America,” where Trump decides to use “The Squad” as a distraction from all his problems, namely with China. Trump picks up a photo of “The Squad” which features cartoon renditions of Reps. Rashida Tlaib, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Ayanna Pressley and begins to sing about how they shouldn’t be in America.

The foursome then pop out of the picture and begin singing about how they’re more American than First Lady Melania Trump, to which Trump responds she’s not a big part of his life and that they’ll never see Tel Aviv, Israel. The ladies then sing insults in unison at Trump.

“You’re Boris Johnson without the class.
Can’t wait to see you behind prison glass.
Your nose is right up Putin’s ass.
We say it’s time to impeach you fast.”

Trump is then seen running away into the White House lawn where the 2020 Democrat candidates begin can-can dancing. He joins them, saying he can’t be the first one to fall. He quickly does to the amusement of the candidates.

As of this writing, YouTube commenters are tearing it apart and it currently has 1.3k dislikes to 753 likes. This is for good reason.

The gag is just bad, and I’m not saying that because I really don’t like “The Squad.”

There’s nothing actually funny about it. No jokes that really have the wit you’d expect from The Simpsons. They take as many lazy blows as they can, including poking fun at Trump’s hair actually being an animal and the disproven claim that Trump belongs to Russia. The swipe at Melania was also pretty bad, especially considering the fact that if they had said that about a Democratic First Lady, there’d be riots outside the studios where The Simpsons is made.

I get that its satire and it’s not supposed to be taken seriously, it’s just that satire is usually supposed to be funny, and this is just more cringy than anything else.

One thing I do find funny is that the Babylon Bee is excoriated by the left for actually being funny where they feel it shouldn’t be, whereas the left is demolished by the right for not being funny at all when they try to be.
