New York Times author Nate Cohn really liked Robert “Beto” O’Rourke. In fact, Cohn liked O’Rourke so much that he often compared him to one of cinema’s greatest and well known protagonists of all time, Luke Skywalker of the Star Wars series.
According to Cohn, O’Rourke was Luke, and the evil Darth Vader was Ted Cruz and both were fighting over the galactic senate…in Texas.
“For about a year now, I’ve been comparing Beto to Luke Skywalker,” tweeted Cohn. “He’s the famous hero, for Democrats, of an epic of good versus evil, against one of the greatest villians of all time. Darth Vader, Ted Cruz; Star Wars in a Galaxy far away; Texas Senate in the Trump midterm.”

Michael Li, Texas transplant and NYU redistricting expert, came to a realization. If O’Rourke is Luke, then that makes Cruz O’Rourke’s dad.
“Wait, Ted Cruz is Beto’s father??!” responded Li.

Cruz saw the tweet and wanted to clear the air.
The answer is “yes.”

Love him or hate him, Cruz is one of the funniest guys in congress and the internet showed its appreciation for it.

Cruz is a good natured dude, and this is definitely a good natured burn on O’Rourke, who Cruz defeated in the midterm elections despite all the Democrat’s horses and all the Democrat’s gender fluid persons of political affiliation coming together to try to push Cruz out of his Senate seat. It was a tough fight, but in the end, Cruz ended up being O’Rourke’s daddy.
