The Democratic 2020 hopeful, Sen. Kamala Harris (Calif), let her feminism rip with a declaration that she would punish companies who have a “wage gap” within their company, but new numbers show that Harris’s own campaign is guilty of this dastardly dead horse.

According to the Associated Press, Harris came up with a plan to force businesses to apply for a mandatory certification that would also force them to disclose pay policies. If a wage gap is discovered, the company is fined a percentage of their earnings:

Harris’ plan would require companies to disclose pay policies while applying for a mandatory “Equal Pay Certification” from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Companies that fail to achieve certification would be fined 1% of their profits for every 1% wage gap they allow to persist for work of equal value.

“Kamala Harris has a simple message for corporations: Pay women fairly or pay the price,” said Harris’s campaign. “We’ve let corporations hide their wage gaps, but forced women to stand up in court just to get the pay they’ve earned. It’s time to flip the script and finally hold corporations accountable for pay inequality in America.”

However, the Washington Free Beacon looked into Harris’s payments toward her own employees and found that men are indeed paid more than women:

In her Senate office’s most recent six-month disclosure, covering the period from April 1, 2018, through Sept. 31, 2018, the median male salary disbursement was $34,999 and the median female salary disbursement was $32,999, leaving women with just 94 cents of every dollar paid to men.

The gender pay gap for the previous six-month period, during which the median male salary was $27,167 and the median female salary was $25,749.97, was a nearly identical 6 percent.

The pay gap was even greater during the first full month of Harris’s presidential campaign in February—the median female salary disbursement for the month, $5,763.97, was about 87 percent of the median male salary disbursement, $6,632.23, a further analysis of her campaign filing found.

The Harris campaign came closer to gender pay equality in March, when the median female disbursement was about 95 percent of the median male disbursement.

Awkward. The feminist candidate is guilty of the sin she herself is ready to smite companies for.

In reality, there is no such thing as a “wage gap” as the Daily Wire’s Ashe Schow explains:

In reality, there is no “wage” gap, but there is an “earnings” gap due to the different careers and hours women work vs. men. Every economist who has studied the gap has found this same answer, yet Democrats continue to claim America’s employers are committing discrimination against women en masse. Also, paying men more than women has been illegal since the Equal Pay Act became law in 1963.
