Hoyer and Pelosi Demand Apology from GOP for Calling Out Tlaib's "Calming Feeling" About the Holocaust

Democrat leadership has chosen to run defense for the party’s blatant antisemitism, and are now demanding the GOP apologize for calling it out.

On Monday, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi both demanded President Donald Trump and the Republicans apologize to Democratic Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib after they attacked her for her comments about the Holocaust during a podcast.

Trump had called Tlaib out for her comments on Twitter, adding that she had a tremendous hatred for the Jewish people, and asked what would happen if he had said anything of this sort.

“If you read Rep. [Tlaib’s] comments, it is clear that President Trump and Congressional Republicans are taking them out of context. They must stop, and they owe her an apology,” tweeted Hoyer.

Pelosi also tweeted out a call for the GOP to apologize to Tlaib, accusing Republicans of taking her comments out of context.

“Republicans’ desperate attempts to smear [Tlaib] & misrepresent her comments are outrageous. President [Donald Trump] & House GOP should apologize to Rep. Tlaib & the American people for their gross misrepresentations.

What was it that Tlaib said exactly? The quote leaves little room for misinterpretation, unless just before this Tlaib uttered the phrase “here’s what a total antisemite would say about the Holocaust.”

Here’s the full quote from the “Skullduggery” podcast where she said it:

There’s always kind of a calming feeling I tell folks when I think of the Holocaust, and the tragedy of the Holocaust, and the fact that it was my ancestors, Palestinians — who lost their land, and some lost their lives their livelihood, their human dignity, their existence in many ways — have been wiped out, and some people’s passports. And just all of it was in the name of trying to create a safe haven for Jews, post-the Holocaust, post-the tragedy and the horrific persecution of Jews across the world at that time. I love the fact that it was my ancestors that provided that, right? In many ways. But they did it in a way that took their human dignity away and it was forced on them.

Tlaib’s claim that Palestinians were killed while trying to provide a safe place for the Jewish people during WW2 is actually a massive lie as pointed out by the Daily Caller.

“Muhammad Amin al-Husayni, the Palestinian Grand Mufti at the time of World War II was friendly with Adolf Hitler and helped spread anti-Semitic propaganda leading up to the Holocaust,” wrote the DC’s Mike Brest.

Tlaib herself attempted to paint the GOP response to her quote in the same way Pelosi and Hoyer did, with accusations of being taken out of context.

It’s hard not to misinterpret Tlaib’s comments here. That the Democrats are running interference on her behalf shows just how much they’ve become comfortable with, so long as it runs contrary to anything Trump says or does.

This includes lying about the Holocaust, an even perpetuated by antisemites that took the lives of some six million innocent Jewish people.

This is the Democratic party trying to save face in the worst way.
