Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is definitely a social justice driven politicians, but apparently, even he has his limits, and handing out cash simply for being black is one of them.
While appearing on a radio interview with Charlamagne Tha God on Monday, Sanders talked about his usual Sanders stuff like how healthcare should be a right and how we should have free college.
Soon, however, he was asked about whether or not he supports the idea of reparations, or cash given to people of African-American descent strickly due to their ancestors suffering through slavery.
“What do we mean by reparations?” Sanders asked. “To my mind, it means we have to deal with the fact that there is enormous disparity between the black community and the white community. And that issue has got to be addressed.”
“I think they mean some type of economic empowerment to the African-American community,” Charlamagne said.
“What does that mean, economic empowerment?” Sanders asked. “I would do my best to change the banking system so that we pay attention to distressed communities that people get the loans that they need, to make the investments they need.”
“Cash payouts?” Charlamagne asked.
“No,” Sanders answered flatly.
“You mean just a check to every African-American?” he continued. “Well then there’s a check to every Native American … I think the way we go forward is we build America. There are distressed communities — white communities — distressed Latino communities.”
Sanders not getting on board with handing out cash to people strictly because of their skin color made some in the social justice community mad. Sure as socialism fails, they took to Twitter to express their anger.
White people don’t get to say how reparations should be paid or handed out. The fact that they, any white person who benefited from slavery even think they have authority on that is a travesty and a continuation of the social disparities. @cthagod @BernieSanders https://t.co/FucLWE8Bjx

Sad I liked him in 2016, definitely not voting for him this time. He’s really out of touch

Bernie Sanders was on the Breakfast Club, and Charlamange brought up the issue of reparations and pointed out that Black ppl were specifically targeted with discrimination so we need specific assistance. And Bernie start talking about helping ALL people.
