Ocasio-Cortez Is Showing She's Pretty Spooked Over Threat of Dem's Plans to Primary Her

Rep Ocasio-Cortez

The Democrats’ newest and shiniest lawmaker, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, may have a short-lived career in Washington if some of the Democrats get their way and primary her in 2020.

After an article from The Hill broke that told the story of how various Democrat groups and politicians were planning to find candidates to run the young democratic socialist out of office after only one term, Ocasio-Cortez seems to have gotten a tad spooked, and is now buying up dozens of Facebook ads in order to fundraise in preparation for a 2020 battle.

As well she should. Some of the groups angry with her are the Black Caucus, the Hispanic Caucus, and various politicians from her own district. While Ocasio-Cortez assures the Black Caucus that she’s not going after any black Democrats, she is brazenly going after one Hispanic Caucus member, Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas).

As first reported by the Daily Caller, AOC’s camp has purchased as many as 90 ads on Facebook since the article from The Hill dropped, all of them bearing messages of Democrats coming after her for shaking things up.

“If you haven’t heard about it already, news just broke that some of Alexandria’s colleagues are already trying to replace her in Congress,” read some ads. “They’re plotting a primary challenge because they don’t like that we’re shaking things up in DC.”

“Did you see the headline from The Hill today? Alexandria’s House colleagues are talking about trying to ‘make her a one-term congressperson,'” read another. “They’re mad because we’re shaking things up.”

Ocasio-Cortez also took the time to take to Twitter and lash out at the anonymous Democrat who noted that other Democrats were ready and willing to make a run at AOC in order to snatch her out of her seat.

“That broken mentality, that public office is something you wait in line for, instead of earning through hard organizing, is exactly what voters want to change,” said Ocasio-Cortez, adding “Shows you how disconnected some folks here are.”

According to the Daily Caller, three people have already been chosen as potential candidates to run against Ocasio-Cortez in 2020.

No matter who they run against her, it’s going to be a pretty tough fight. Ocasio-Cortez is a popular figure within the Democratic party, becoming something of a sensation all by herself. She’ll have name recognition and ideological die-hards fighting tooth and nail for her.

It will take some serious campaigning and backroom deals to trip her up enough to make her fall from her office, but for some Democrats that seems to be a fight worth having.
