Lindsey Graham Gives Smackdowns to Both Pelosi and Trump on Their "Sophomoric" Back and Forth

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) isn’t amused by the current blows being exchanged between President Donald Trump and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) over the shutdown.

It all began when Pelosi closed the House to Donald Trump so that he would be unable to give his State of the Union address, citing concerns over security due to the shutdown. As Ted Cruz explained, the real reason is due to the fact that Pelosi wants Trump speaking directly to the people with as little spectacle as possible.

Trump then struck back by revoking Pelosi’s (and the rest of the Democrats) travel via military aircraft, citing the very same shutdown concerns and subtly reminding the Speaker that the USAF follows his orders, not hers. No Brussels trip or Afghanistan photo-op for Pelosi on the taxpayer dime.

While absolutely hilarious, Graham wasn’t as amused as everyone else and lashed out at both sides of the fight on Twitter.

“One sophomoric response does not deserve another. Speaker Pelosi’s threat to cancel the State of the Union is very irresponsible and blatantly political,” tweeted Graham.

He had some words for Trump as well.

“President Trump denying Speaker Pelosi military travel to visit our troops in Afghanistan, our allies in Egypt and NATO is also inappropriate,” he tweeted, adding “I am glad the Speaker wants to meet our troops and hear from our commanders and allies. I am very disappointed she’s playing politics with the State of the Union.”

“I wish our political leadership could find the same desire to work for common goals as those who serve our nation in uniform and other capacities,” finished Graham.

While I can agree with Graham that our political leaders need to have a bit more decorum, the libertarian in me is giddy over the idea that our lawmakers are being stopped from throwing our taxpayer dollars around during a shutdown when thousands of federal workers are going without their pay.
