Ocasio-Cortez Neglects to Mention She Voted to Fund ICE While Accusing It of Horrible Things on MSNBC

Of all the people who took President Donald Trump’s Oval Office address hardest, freshly minted New York Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was near the top.

As I wrote earlier, the democratic socialist took to MSNBC where she wailed and gnashed teeth to Rachel Maddow about how Trump is a racist and people trying to get into the U.S. from the southern border are more American than Americans.

However, one thing she added was a complete rant about ICE where she said they “violated human rights” and demanded that Trump should be “defending why we are funding such an agency at all because right now what we are seeing is death”:

He has separated children from their families: he talked about what happened the day after Christmas, on the day of Christmas, a child died in ICE custody. The president should not be asking for more money to an agency that has systematically violated human rights. The president should be really defending why we are funding such an agency at all because right now what we are seeing is death, right now what we are seeing is the violation of human rights, these children and these families are being held in what are called Yeletas, which are basically freezing boxes that no person should be maintained in for any amount of time, let alone the amount of time they are being kept on, and moreover, even if you are anti-immigrant, in this country, the majority of immigrant overstays, the majority of the reason that people are undocumented is visa overstay. It’s not because people are crossing a border illegally. It is because of visa overstay which mind you, he’s talking about legal immigration — he’s trying to restrict every form of legal immigration there is in the United States.

However, the Daily Caller has uncovered an interesting fact in that Ocasio-Cortez actually voted for MORE funding for ICE:

Moreover, she left out the fact that just a week earlier, when she voted “aye” on House Joint Resolution 1 on Jan. 3, 2019, she herself had voted to fund ICE through the end of the fiscal year.

H.J. Res. 1, according to the final rollcall vote, passed with 100 percent Democratic support. Five Republicans joined with the Democrats in voting “aye.” The intent of the resolution was, “Making further continuing appropriations for the Department of Homeland Security [DHS] for fiscal year 2019, and for other purposes.”

Because ICE is funded through DHS, Ocasio-Cortez cast one of her first votes as a congresswoman to continue funding the agency she has repeatedly called for abolishingand has accused of “systematically” violating human rights.

In summary, Ocasio-Cortez is voting to fund an organization she says are a branch of Trump’s evil racism against immigrants.

It’s like she’s not even trying.
