WATCH: CNN's Narcissism Shows As Host Confronts Brother of Man Detained in Russia Over Social Media Post Making Fun of CNN

CNN has made it very clear in the past that they don’t like being made fun of, even going so far as to threaten to doxx a civilian over a GIF of Donald Trump body slamming CNN.

The network’s collective narcissism also drove it to put the brother of a man currently being held in Russia on espionage charges on the spot about a social media post calling CNN “fake news.”

According to The Washington Free Beacon, CNN’s Alisyn Camerota interviewed David Whelan, brother of former Marine Paul Whelan, who was recently arrested by Russian authorities while attending a friend’s wedding, over charges of espionage.

At one point during the interview, Camerota brought up Paul’s account on Russian social media site “VKontakte,” and proceeded to ask about some of his posts. One came up, seeming to surprise Camerota herself, of a 2017 photo of Paul standing in front CNN’s building, where he took a selfie with the CNN logo in the background.

“Drinking coffee and watching fake news,” read Paul’s post.

Camerota reassured David that she was not taking the post personally, but asked: “Is this a statement on his part, somehow?”

“I don’t really know. I don’t know what’s on his VKontakte page, I don’t really follow him on social media other than on Twitter, which is where I am, so I don’t know what he was intending by those photos,” David replied.

Needless to say, this kind of confrontation is highly inappropriate, and Camerota herself seemed to be caught off guard by the suddenness of its appearance. She did say, however, that she hadn’t planned on asking David about the photo “yet.” Regardless, her producers seemed to feel that throwing this at the brother of a man captured by Russians for serious charges was okay to do.
