In today’s politically correct environment, Fox New’s Tucker Carlson isn’t considered safe, but brutal truths are brutal for a reason, and Carlson isn’t shy about being truthful.
Recently, Carlson began discussing the illegal immigrants who arrived via the migrant caravan and are now camping out in Tijuana, Mexico. As Tijuana officials and many residents are professing, the problems the migrants are causing are widespread. Crime is skyrocketing with assaults and robberies on a stark rise, and the trash left behind by the migrants is piling up in the streets.
As he spoke about the situation, Carlson noted that
“It’s obvious that we need more scientists and skilled engineers, but that’s not what we’re getting. Instead, we’re getting waves of people with high school educations or less. Nice people. No one doubts that. But as an economic matter, this is insane. It’s indefensible, so nobody even tries to defend it,” Carlson said on his Fox News show. “Instead, our leaders demand that you shut up and accept this. We have a moral obligation to admit the world’s poor they tell us, even if it makes our own country poorer, dirtier and more divided.”
Of course, leftist watchdog groups began to spread the word that Carlson had said something unconscionably racist by declaring that he asserted migrants make America poor and dirty. This is way out of context, and Carlson’s very next words in that segment prove that when he addressed the migrant caravan directly.
“What’s so amusing though, is that nobody ever bothered to explain any of these rules to the people of Tijuana,” Carlson continued. “Tijuana is in Mexico, which means they’re Mexican citizens. And by academic definitions popular in this country, they must be oppressed. Nobody on the American left ever imagined that the people of Tijuana would display the classic symptoms of white privilege. And yet when a caravan of Honduran immigrants showed up in their city uninvited that’s exactly what they did.”
Regardless, 14 companies began removing ads from Carlson’s show, including insurance company Pacific Life, IHOP, and TD Ameritrade.
“We continue to stand by and work with our advertisers through these unfortunate and unnecessary distractions,” a Pacific Life spokesperson said according to The Hill.
Despite the pressure, The Hill reported that Fox News is not backing down and will stand with Carlson in the face of this mischaracterization of their host, who Fox News notes, has already been the target of radical left-wing groups in the recent past:
“We cannot and will not allow voices like Tucker Carlson to be censored by agenda-driven intimidation efforts from the likes of Moveon.org, Media Matters and Sleeping Giants,” the news network said in a statement.
“Attempts were made last month to bully and terrorize Tucker and his family at their home,” it continued, referencing a group of left-wing antifa activists that converged on Carlson’s Washington, D.C., home in November.
“He is now once again being threatened via Twitter by far left activist groups with deeply political motives. While we do not advocate boycotts, these same groups never target other broadcasters and operate under a grossly hypocritical double standard given their intolerance to all opposing points of view.”
Fox News brings up an excellent point by pointing out the hypocrisy of those attacking Carlson. CNN, for instance, consistently touts racist views from their own hosts, such as Don Lemon calling all white Republicans the largest terror threat faced by America. MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski drops an insulting comment related to the homosexual community and no activist group batted an eye.
To be clear, Carlson is under attack because of his conservative/libertarian leanings, and his wide audience makes him a threat. Watchdog groups are willing to collapse his platform by any means possible, and one of those means is lying about his words to make him seem blatantly racist when this is demonstrably false.
Still, to the credit of many companies, others are sticking by him according to The Hill:
A spokesperson from Farmers Insurance suggested to The Hollywood Reporter last week that it would not pull advertisements from Carlson’s program, saying that “advertisements should not be construed to be an endorsement of any kind.”
“Farmers invests in advertising across a broad range of networks and programs that reflect the diversity of opinions and viewpoints found across the nation,” the spokesperson said. “Advertising decisions made by Farmers should not be construed to be an endorsement of any kind as to a show’s content or the individuals appearing on the show.”
Mitsubishi and Bayer, the owner of advertiser Alka Seltzer Plus, are also continuing to run ads on the show.
“Our advertising media is determined based on demographics and psychographics, not politics,” a spokesman for Mitsubishi told The Daily Beast. “Our strategic marketing intent is to share our key product news with consumers through a variety of media channels. We will monitor the situation and adjust our advertising if necessary.”
A spokesman for Alka Seltzer Plus said the company regularly evaluates advertising decisions.
“Opinions or views expressed by the network’s news programs or their hosts are solely those of the network, and do not necessarily reflect those of Bayer,” a spokesman for the company said. “Given the wide disparity of media today and wide range of public opinion on any given issue, it would be an impossible task to find a major television or radio network whose entire programming schedule appeals to all audiences.”
