Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak Deletes His Facebook Over Data Scandal

And another one gone, and another one gone.

After the big data sharing scandal out of Facebook made the news, big names making a public show of deleting their Facebook pages became all the rage with the #DeleteFacebook hashtag. The most high profile deletion came in the form of Elon Musk giving Facebook a digital middle finger, and deleting the public page accounts for both Space X and Tesla Motors.

Adding to these ranks now is Apple’s co-founder Steve Wozniak, who is more or less one of the gods in the technology industry’s pantheon.

According to The Independent, Wozniak who saw Facebook’s use of people’s data and checked the “no” box.

“Users provide every detail of their life to Facebook,” Wozniak said. “Facebook makes a lot of advertising money off this. The profits are all based on the user’s info, but the users get none of the profits back.”

“I was surprised to see how many categories for ads and how many advertisers I had to get rid of, one at a time. I did not feel that this is what people want done to them,” he continued. Ads and spam are bad things these days and there are no controls over them. Or transparency.”

Despite Musk and Wozniak making a public show of walking away from Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg says his company hasn’t really felt the sting, but recognizes that things need to change according to the Independent.

“I don’t think there has been any meaningful impact we’ve observed,” Zuckerberg said.

“But look, it’s not good. Even if we can’t really measure a change in the usage of a product, or the business or anything like that, it still speaks to people feeling like this is a massive breach of trust and that we have a lot of work to do to repair that.”

Zuckerberg is set to appear before Senate’s Judiciary and Commerce committees on Tuesday to testify about the alleged information collection by UK firm Cambridge Analytica, which is said to have gathered information about some 87 million people.
