I wish I was being hyperbolic, but sadly that’s not the case with Buncombe County candidate for Sheriff, R. Daryl Fisher.

Fisher is a hardline Democrat who has been in law enforcement since 1985 and announced his candidacy for the position of Sherriff in June.

Fisher was recently caught on camera giving his policy positions for firearms, which include all the standard anti-gun positions a Democrat would take. Raise the purchase age, ban high capacity magazine, etc.

He also calls to ban any gun that fires rounds in “rapid succession.” Whether he’s talking about semi-automatic firearms or fully automatic firearms, I’m not sure. However, he follows that up by saying that any weapon used by the military should not be allowed for civilian use. This leads me to believe he’s talking about fully automatic weapons, which doesn’t speak well for his knowledge of the law. Automatic firearms have been heavily restricted since the 1930’s and require special licensing from federal and state government to make or acquire.

Not that it matters what he meant. It seems Fisher would be perfectly happy taking semi-automatic weapons away too.

But it was at the end of the video that Fisher goes beyond bans and restrictions. Fisher is apparently of the mind that in the event of these bans or restriction taking place, then the owners who won’t give up their firearms should be shot dead.

“You’ve heard people say: ‘You’ll have to pry my gun from my cold, dead hands,'” said Fisher pausing for a moment. “Okay!”

The people with him in the room apparently thought this was funny, and applauded as they laughed.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, this is what the founding fathers had in mind when they solidified our right to bear arms. This is bold-faced tyranny. The “you will accept my way of order or pay with your life” kind of rule that this country stands in opposition to with its very foundations.

In a way, I understand misguided calls for banning and restricting firearms. It’s a shame that many people don’t have the facts, and I blame a very uncooperative media who would rather sew fear and ignorance than education and safety. This ignorance leads to, sadly, more harm than good. However, it’s important that we understand that many do not know much more than what they’re told, and have little time or interest in finding out the whole story.

What I can’t understand, and will not abide, is the straightforward calls for the deaths of myself, my family, my friends, and millions of American gun owners all over this nation because they don’t want their rights infringed.

Fisher is a sick individual who should not be allowed anywhere near a badge.
