Few daytime television hosts can fit so firmly into the “unhinged” column as The View’s Joy Behar, who I’m positive is only kept on the show because the ridiculous things she says make us write about her and the show, thus keeping interest up.
Sometimes I wonder if she does it on purpose. For instance, this time Behar decided to call Megyn Kelly a “b**ch” on live daytime television over Kelly’s feud with Hanoi Jane Fonda, the American actress who essentially betrayed America and its troops during the Vietnam War.
If it works, it works. Here I am writing about it, and here you are reading it, but I digress.
While I could just write about how Behar’s behavior is outrageous, it’s kind of par for the course, and that should give us all pause. We expect this kind of behavior, and while we may disagree with it, or even be disgusted by it, nobody really does anything about it. We’ve just accepted that this is how things are now. The Overton window is too far into the “leftists gonna leftist” and “outrage is fun” territory for us to see the forest for the trees.
To give you the full idea of how normalized leftist domination of the media is, let’s break down what happened.
A hostess of a daytime television show watched by millions became angry at the hostess of another show because she got into an argument over plastic surgery with a woman who, for all intents and purposes, is an anti-American joke. Kelly highlighted as much after Fonda became angry with the question, which is odd, seeing as how she herself has talked about plastic surgery openly and that it’s not something she’s proud of. Kelly wanted to give her a platform to voice her dissatisfaction with the pressure on women to keep looking beautiful, but Fonda took the outrage route because…well, I’m not sure.
Fonda’s pearl clutching over Kelly’s question is amusing, seeing as how Fonda is notorious for being a real-life villain, and Kelly called her out as such.
“Many of our veterans still call her ‘Hanoi Jane’ thanks to her radio broadcasts, which attempted to shame American troops. She posed on an anti-aircraft gun used to shoot down our American pilots,” Kelly said. “She called our POWs hypocrites and liars and referred to their torture as understandable. Even she had to apologize years later for that gun picture, but not for the rest of it.”
All of this is true, and Kelly’s reaction is warranted. Fonda’s outrage seems ridiculous, given the fact that she herself said she wants to be a face for older women with a face that’s not really hers, and that she regrets that fact. It seems almost as if Fonda’s outrage falls into the faux category, and that it stems from her obvious hatred of the right-wing of the political spectrum where Kelly firmly sits.
This has all generated controversy about Kelly being a bad interviewer and an impolite person. She’s not. The only reason this is an issue is because Kelly is a former popular Fox News host who had a penchant for taking leftist fools down a peg. You can see that attitude still lives on today.
But the leftist celebrity circle, so comfortable in its position as top of the media food chain, ganged up on Kelly and said things that would get someone a talking to by the boss in almost any other professional atmosphere.
Behar called Kelly a b**ch on live TV for telling the truth, and she will suffer no blowback, save from right-leaning media sites like this one. In fact, if anyone will suffer, it’s Kelly who will get the slap on the wrist for rocking the glitterati’s boat.
And the general public will just accept that this is the way things are. No one will rightly look at Behar for the unhinged partisan hack she is. Leftist outrage and lashing out at the right is as typical as heads of lettuce at the grocery store, or car noises outside your window. For the general public, Behar’s behavior is normal, and we’re all now comfortable with that.
Even the right sees this behavior, and while it may be disgusted or outraged about it, we just kind of shrug it off. We’ve accepted that this is how it is, and nothing is going to change that.
The reason leftists have so dominated Hollywood and erected such a firm ideological bubble is because it’s something we as the public are now so used to that we don’t raise much of a stink when it happens. We’ve just accepted that the left owns it, and is going to act this way because that’s just what they do.
The school bus drops the kids off on the corner at 4:30, and Joy Behar says something completely horrible about right-leaning figures to applause and agreement by co-hosts. Your car needs an oil change every 3,000 miles, and Hollywood makes movies that paint right-wing values as cheesy, ridiculous, or even evil.
I want better than that, and I’m willing to bet you do too.
It starts with us showing up in force to the cultural battlefield.
