Actress Jenna Fischer Apologizes for Misleading Tweet About GOP Tax Bill, Proving Not Everyone in Hollywood Is a Proud Idiot

The actress who played “Pam” on the hit NBC show The Office was all outrage on Saturday, and tweeted a complete lie about the bill making it harder for teachers to get the supplies they need to teach students. Fischer suddenly found herself being corrected by a multitude of people on Twitter, and in a stunning move rarely seen in Hollywood, actually apologized for the tweet, confessed her ignorance, and deleted it.

“I can’t stop thinking about how school teachers can no longer deduct the cost of their classroom supplies on their taxes…something they shouldn’t have to pay for with their own money in the first place. I mean, imagine if nurses had to go buy their own syringes. #ugh,” Fisher tweeted on Saturday of the GOP’s tax bill.

“It was capped at $250 which is woefully insufficient especially considering they shouldn’t have to go out of pocket at all. #iloveteachers,” she added.

After receiving the correct information, Fischer acknowledged she was wrong. But instead of just deleting the tweet, and pretending it never happened, Fischer issued a statement that included her apology and even admitted that she genuinely feels bad about getting the facts wrong.

Fischer said she thought about leaving the false tweet up, which had garnered many retweets at the time because it fostered dialogue. The “starting a dialogue” angle is a tactic you’ll see some celebrities fall back on when they’ve been caught lying, or spreading misinformation. However, Fischer says she decided against that, saying that admitting you’re wrong and taking responsibility for your mistakes is something she was raised to do.

My hat goes off to Fischer. There are a lot of celebrities that consistently spread lies around the internet for political purposes, or just out of disdain and spite of people who disagree with them. Fischer has proven not to be among them, and it’s good to see there are celebrities like her that exist in Hollywood.
