Nikki Haley Just Reminded the UN of America's Might and Power in One of the Most EPIC Speeches of 2017

Don’t mess with Nikki Haley, and certainly don’t mess with America. Neither is fooling around at the UN, and Haley’s speech on Thursday to the assembly was one such example as she reminded UN members that they don’t have to like the decisions the U.S. makes, but they WILL respect it.

The UN will vote on a resolution expressing its displeasure over the U.S.’s decision to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, which Trump recognized as the country’s capital. Since the announcement, Palestinians, UN member states, the European Union and more have come out against the decision.

But regardless of the disapproval, America is not backing down and will do what it pleases with its own embassies…not to mention its money. No one could have expressed that better than Haley.

“When a nation is singled out for attack in this organization that nation is disrespected,” said Haley. “What’s more, that nation is asked to pay for the privilege of being disrespected. In the case of the US, we are asked to pay more than anyone else for that dubious privilege.”

Haley also reminded the assembly that when it comes to paying the bills, America foots the majority of it.

“The United States is by far the single largest contributor to the UN… We’ll be honest with you: when we make generous contributions to the UN, we also have a legitimate expectation that our goodwill is recognized and respected,” continued Haley.

“The decision does nothing to harm peace efforts. Rather the President’s decision reflects the will of the American people and our right as a nation to choose the location of our embassy. There is no need to describe it further.”

That’s when Haley laid down the facts. The attack by the general assembly on America is ridiculous and will have consequences.

“We will remember this day in which it was singled out for attack in the General Assembly for the very act of exercising our right as a sovereign nation…We will remember it when so many countries come calling on us, as they so often do, to pay even more.”

“America will put our embassy in Jerusalem… No vote in the UN will make any difference on that,” she said, letting the General Assembly know their vote will amount to little more than an official temper tantrum.

As Eli Lake at Bloomberg highlights, America’s decision and Haley’s actions are in line with a lesson learned not long ago as set forth in a Commentary Magazine essay by former US ambassador Daniel Patrick Moynihan when Samantha Powers abstained from a pro-Israel vote in order to please the member states in public, a move he called “joining the jackals.”

“In our flight from ‘confrontation’ did we end not by understanding the perspectives of others, but by adopting them,” wrote Moynihan.

Haley just kept us out of the jackal pack, and made sure it understood that the U.S. is the king of the beasts in this land.
