If Turkey’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is the most un-self-aware man on the face of God’s green Earth, Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu force fed him some food for thought after the two exchanged insults at one another.
Angry over Trump’s announcement that Jerusalem was the capital of Israel, Erdogan lashed out at the state of Israel, accusing it of doing…well…exactly what Turkey does.
“Palestine is an innocent victim… As for Israel, it is a terrorist state, yes, terrorist!” Erdogan said in a speech according to Fox News. “We will not abandon Jerusalem to the mercy of a state that kills children.”
During a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, Netanyahu decided to point out some obvious facts to Erdogan.
“I‘m not used to receiving lectures about morality from a leader who bombs Kurdish villages in his native Turkey, who jails journalists, helps Iran go around international sanctions and who helps terrorists, including in Gaza, kill innocent people,” Netanyahu replied.
Since the Jerusalem announcement, attacks on Jewish people and places have been occurring. Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh called for an uprising from Palestinians to make Trump “regret” the decision. Since then a Gaza terrorist group attempted to fire two rockets into Israel, and a Swedish synagogue was firebombed during a youth event.
Further, it should be noted that the accusation of Israel being “child killers” is a sad consequence of groups that continue to visit violence upon Israelis using children as human shields. While accidents do happen, and innocent lives are lost, it should be noted that much of the violence visited upon Palestinians is a result of an ongoing war that Palestinians continue to wage against Israel.
If Erdogan believes that children should not have to suffer, then he should discontinue his support for terrorist groups that put children in harm’s way.
