An indie jewelry company named “Lady Grey” makes pieces much loved by celebrities. One of those celebrities in particular is Ivanka Trump, the daughter of the guy who would date her if only.
Jill Martinelli and Sabine Le Guyader, the two women who head up the company were only too thrilled to receive Ivanka Trump’s order. In fact, not only did they send her the jewelry she ordered, they sent her a note as well.
“Dear Ivanka,” started the letter. “Thank you so much for your web order!”
That’s about where the kindness stops, and what I can only describe as professional cattiness begins.
There are a million and one ways to look at this, but if you were to read the comments, the vast majority are not at all amused by the jewelry crafters trick.
I’ve never heard of Lady Grey until today, but I’ll know to stay away from them for now on. Customers should come before politics.

Lady Grey Jewelry hopes for short term untick in sales from new customers by throwing loyal long term customers under the bus. Bad business.

There are many more like that on the Instagram post comments section as well.
Did Lady Grey hurt their own business? That remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, they didn’t please too many people with this move. Violating your own privacy policy to be politically nasty to your customers isn’t going to win too much trust from anyone. Even if people don’t like Trump, they like having their privacy looked after.
What’s more, they just alienated so many groups in one go. Even if I don’t like Trump – which I don’t – donating money to Everytown, the gun control advocacy group that consistently lies to push its narrative, is going to make sure I never purchase anything for the lady in my life from them. I don’t want any of my dollars going toward a group that consistently tries to take my freedoms from me.
Still, it’s their money now. They can donate it to whomever they like. But people like the ladies of Lady Grey should understand that the free market giveth, and it taketh away. If the comments are any indication, they’ll probably see some taketh soon. They didn’t seem to make many friends here.
