For the new year we intended to take a look ahead at what might be in store for the media complex. But 2026 decided to fire out of the gate with a string of major stories inside the first week. Media malfunction followed.
We can already see a continuation of what was prevalent last year, which was the press highlighting the downside of 80/20 issues. But they are hitting the throttle. The denial of facts to continue with their narratives is evident, but an old-school tactic is also being leveraged: shooting the messenger.
Already we see the major outlets turning attention not to serious stories but on the lower-level news outlets willing to report on those serious stories. The apparent issue is with these “disapproved” outlets committing journalism, and as a result, making the mainstreamers look bad.
We'd better strap in; 2026 is promising to be a turbulent time.
