The big news in the news industry this week was the announcement that Paramount Global, parent company to CBS News, settled its court case brought by President Donald Trump. This sent many in the press industry into an emotional fit, and those at CBS did their best to spin this in a positive light. The truth is they had been exposed for manipulating the Kamala Harris pre-election interview, and the claims of this being a standard editing process due to time were belied by the network refusing to release the full transcript and video of the interview.
Also, there was the P. Diddy trial coming to a conclusion, and the surprise was that it was a split decision, as the celebrity was only found guilty of two of the five charges he was facing. This result led to MSNBC’s legal expert weighing in with a curiously insulting assessment of the prosecution team. It seems rather certain that had there been a five-for-five result, the all-female lawyers would have been praised in the opposite fashion.
Speaking of MSNBC, we had a deeply imbalanced episode where the geniuses at the network pontificated that the recent Supreme Court decision would open the doors for President Trump to be permitted to murder journalists. (Yes, this was said on the air.) Meanwhile, at CNN, they were enthusiastically promoting a new phone app that would help people avoid ICE detention efforts by delivering up-to-date reports on where the agency was conducting raid efforts.
It is with little surprise, then, that these disturbing practices would lead to both networks plunging further in the ratings during the past quarter.
Now, crack one open and savor some outmoded media malpractice and misinformation.
