It was a curious week where outlets took an interest in diverse topics, but at least they were showing a similarity in the fractured manner of reporting. We saw coverage on items such as Hamas, deportations, the courts, podcasts, and theater performances. There was plenty for them to be bothered about, and deliver bothersome reports.
This time around, we had a clear winner, one that started the week strong and held off any challengers, though some made serious bids for bottom honors. Here are the outlets that demanded attention by delivering reports that were begging to be ignored.
THE CONTENDERS
The Daily Beast – The site tried to spin the story of President Trump being gracious and helpful to a pregnant Rep. Anna Paulina Luna into a salacious tale of him trying to get her into bed. There was the dire report on how Trump was bringing diversity to the program at the Kennedy Center. There was this insistence that the new “Snow White” film eliminating an original song had MAGA outraged and “melting down.”
Politico - The outlet theorized that any CIA employees fired by Trump could end up selling state secrets to enemy nations. We were given a report from Gaza that relied on Hamas details, one that was bad enough a board member from the company that owns Politico had to call them out. There was this laughable claim that Republicans fear Gavin Newsom’s new podcast. Despite the party melting down, we are told the Democrats are having their moment.
CBS News – Scott MacFarlane considered that calling Mexican cartels “terrorists” was provocative and “controversial.” Margaret Brennan insisted the producers of “60 Minutes” were unflinching in their approach to President Trump, while at the same time the network is considering settling the lawsuit brought against them by Trump. Brennan was schooled once again by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, this time regarding her defense of Mahmoud Khalil. The “Nightly News” team tried to suggest Trump deportations were worse than the violent gangs being deported.
MSNBC – Joe Scarborough criticized Trump over his hostility with the courts, and had to pretend Joe Biden never had his share of judicial conflicts. Chris Hayes defended Hamas for placing its rockets in schools and hospitals (yes, seriously.) Chris Matthews made a return and tried to claim that there are no fact-checkers in the Trump era. On a number of shows, the hosts had to sheepishly retract a story, which claimed Tulsi Gabbard said Trump was tight friends with Vladimir Putin.
THE WINNER
ABC NEWS
The network was pouring forth with the dysfunction this week.
Jon Karl disputed President Trump had a valid reason for deportations because the law is really old.
We were served another claim of Trump generating a Constitutional crisis, while independent rogue judges were not regarded as the real threat to government operations.
There was a sympathetic report on a USAID worker who had to be evacuated, ignoring the outbreak of violence meant the program was a failure and legitimately defunded.
Here is a hysterical article that claims cuts to dam programs could lead to electric shortages and flooding.
They found a new environmental crisis – satellites are emperilled, as global warming will cause atmosphere cooling.
Jimmy Kimmel was encouraging more Tesla violence.
See you next week, readers!
