Why are so many Americans so jaded about politics? The allegations in this story are a good reason why.
According to multiple sources, including Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) and Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), the reason the censure vote against Jeffrey Epstein ally Del. Stacey Plaskett (D-VI) failed was because Republican leadership cut a deal to save Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL).
For those unfamiliar with the background, a recent release of Epstein documents showed that the now-deceased sex trafficker was colluding with Plaskett during a hearing, feeding her questions to ask. As RedState reported, Plaskett was then targeted for censure, a move that seemed like a slam-dunk for the GOP-controlled House. Unfortunately, three Republicans ultimately voted against the resolution, while several others abstained from voting. It wasn't immediately clear at the time why that transpired, but according to both Burchett and Luna, a deal was cut.

The Plaskett censure failed because house leadership exchanged that censure failure for the withdrawal of a vote to censure and refer Cory Mills to house ethics for investigation. The swamp protects itself.

Burchett said:
BURCHETT: Late vote series to censure Delegate Stacey Plaskett. She's the one that received a sizable contribution from Epstein, which apparently is legal. I'm not sure. But she is also the one who was texting with him during a committee hearing, getting instructions on how to better attack Trump, from Epstein sending her the texts.
So she's on some pretty powerful committees, and that just tells you how corrupt this place is. But the disgusting thing about it was, four Republicans chose not to vote. Three Republicans voted president -- present, excuse me, and three Republicans voted no. So it failed. And what they did was, they cut a deal. They cut a deal on another ethics vote on a Republican, and that's just wrong.
Everybody should just stand on their own. If it were truly, we don't care whose party these sex offenders and all this other stuff are in, we're going after them, then we start cutting deals. To me, it's really disgusting. I get disgusted about some things, but this is one that's really, really bad. You've got some people on there who are chairmen of committees and things like that, and that's the kind of people we put in leadership. It's bogus, and it stinks, and the first opportunity I get to speak to leadership I will give them a piece of my mind, and I doubt it will go anywhere, but they're the most sewer-dwelling people, some of these folks, not all of them, but some of them are. It's just disgusting. It really is.
While Burchett and Luna don't get into details in their commentary, Mills has now been saved twice by deals that ultimately saw Democrats walk free without any accountability. The first incident involved a vote against Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), with the second being the negotiated failure to save Plaskett from censure and committee removal.
Mills is currently facing multiple accusations and questions surrounding his personal relationships. In September, he voted against censuring Ilhan Omar after she suggested Charlie Kirk's assassination was justified. Around that same time, it was revealed that he married a devout Muslim in what Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) described as an "Al-Qaeda mosque. Mohammed Al Hanooti, an unindicted co-conspirator of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, officiated the wedding, leading to even further concerns about Mills' motivations in protecting Omar.
I met Cory Mills & thought he was great. Then I found his marriage certificate in March.

Further, in October, his ex-girlfriend filed a restraining order against him over alleged blackmail and threats of violence.

Republican leadership in the House needs to explain why shielding Mills is a priority for them, to the point of seeing Omar and Plaskett escape untouched. As Burchett said in his video, if the GOP is going to claim to care about corruption, no matter the party, they can't be cutting backroom deals that expressly protect corruption on both sides.
