Hurricane Helene has devastated multiple states after plowing through Florida and heading up into North Carolina. Widespread flooding has led to entire cities being underwater, and people are desperate for help. This is when having a president who can offer leadership and empathy becomes important. Unfortunately, Americans are stuck with Joe Biden for at least a few more months. 

As RedState reported, Biden took a few questions on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews on Sunday, and his answers were less than optimal. In one head-scratching exchange, he told reporters that he had "spoken to both sides" after being asked about Israeli strikes on the Houthis in Yemen. He then stated he supported the "collective bargaining agreement" and that the "strike" would end soon.

Reporter: "Any comment on the strikes in Yemen?"

Biden: "I've spoken to both sides. They gotta settle the strike. I'm supporting the collective bargaining effort. I think they'll settle the strike."

What was he talking about? No one has any idea. That's just how senile he is. There was another answer, though, that went beyond the president's noted mental decline. When asked about the damage caused by Hurricane Helene, here's what he had to say. 

"Do you have any words to the victims of the hurricane?"

BIDEN: "We've given everything that we have."

"Are there any more resources the federal government could be giving them?"

Man, he looks rough. That aside, this is not the answer people trapped in their flooded homes need to hear right now. If the federal government can take an "as long as it takes" position regarding Ukraine, it should do so when American taxpayers need help. The answer here shouldn't be that there's nothing else else the administration can do. It should be that Biden will do everything in his power to secure further aid for those suffering. Biden's answer gives the impression that he is content to handle Hurricane Helene victims with all the lack of care and dismissal he gave the Maui fire victims. 

There are still people who lost their homes due to fires and can't access their property to rebuild because the federal government won't allow them to. Those people were given a $700 check and an expectation that they keep paying their mortgage after a certain amount of time. I'm not suggesting the government can or should fix everything, but if the nation is going to shell out hundreds of billions of dollars to Ukraine and other foreign causes, maybe spend a little of that stateside in extreme circumstances.

The anger at the Biden administration has been palpable. People rightly see the situation as one of completely upside-down priorities.

If Donald Trump essentially washed his hands of a major disaster and said there's nothing left for the federal government to offer, it would be every headline in every newspaper. A colossal failure is unfolding. The death toll is going to be high, and the recovery time is going to be extensive. The President of the United States should be indicating he's in it for the long haul. Biden had no problem doing that when he was politicizing Hurricane Maria during the 2020 election. His dismissive tone now that he's in charge is a microcosm of his entire tenure.
