It's Too Little, Too Late for Joe Biden and the Border

The Biden administration is renewing the construction of multiple sections of border wall. That was the big news on Wednesday after a notice on the federal registry showed the Department of Homeland Security had waived 26 different federal laws to get the project back off the ground.

It was a stunning reversal from an administration that had long dismissed the idea of a border wall, with Joe Biden himself promising to never build "another foot" of it. That is just one of the statements that has come back to bite the president as he presides over the worst border crisis in U.S. history, with nearly all of it being self-inflicted.

Laughably, Biden tried to disown his own administration's move to build more border wall on Thursday, stating he doesn't believe walls work and suggesting that he was legally bound to continue the work. That's simply untrue. The work was stalled until the waivers were filed, making it an active choice to renew construction. Further, HHS Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas expressed the need for more border barriers. So either Biden is lying or he's not in charge of his administration. Both are disqualifying.

No matter what comes of this latest gambit, though, one thing is clear: It's too little, too late.

Perhaps it's my growing cynicism regarding all things political, but it seems undeniable that the damage done at the border under Joe Biden can't simply be "fixed." A few more miles of border wall isn't going to stop the asylum abuse that's occurring. It's certainly not going to do anything about the millions upon millions of illegal immigrants who have already made their way into the interior of the country in the last several years.

If the goal was to completely destroy American sovereignty and culture, Biden has already succeeded. Whatever menial actions his administration takes at this point will be like trying to stop a damaged ocean liner from sinking with a bucket. It's all window-dressing. None of it is going to make a difference.

That's true for the next administration as well. While all the Republican candidates for president are promising sweeping victories regarding the border crisis, the most likely outcome is exactly what happened under the last Republican administration. Namely, a middling amount of deportations and a marginally better situation on the border itself.

How do you track down and round up what some estimate to be 6-7 million illegal immigrants who have entered since Biden took office? And what happens when far-left judges inevitably step in to stop any attempts to do so? We all know what happens.

I hate to be a non-stop spout of negativity, specifically on this topic, but I see no bright horizons ahead. All I see is a broken system that has already been overrun. The battle has already been lost, and Biden is solely to blame. Whether he likes it or not, his legacy is now cemented as the president who ushered in a total collapse of the immigration system, leading to the deaths of thousands of people and the suffering of millions. His legacy is the enrichment of murderous drug cartels, exacerbating an already out-of-control fentanyl crisis.

That's who Biden is. He's not the empathizer-in-chief. He's not the epitome of decency. He's a sociopathic, ego-driven maniac who sold his country out so he could get a few applause lines at a presidential debate. No one should remember him as anything but that.
