John Fetterman is back at work in the US Senate, and so far, things have not been so good. As RedState reported, a recent committee performance by the Pennsylvania senator ended up going so badly that the press published false quotes in an attempt to clean up the mess.
At least Fetterman is back on the job, though, to whatever extent he actually performs it. That’s certainly better than the months he recently spent in a mental health facility dealing with severe depression. Still, I’m not sure turning the US Senate into a rehab facility is exactly proper.
That’s exactly what’s happened, the mainstream media think it’s just great. The Associated Press released a puff piece that perfectly illustrates that.
Sen. John Fetterman used to walk the halls of the Senate stone-faced and in formal suits. Now, he’s more relaxed, in hoodies and gym shorts.
People close to Fetterman say it's a sign of progress after six weeks of inpatient treatment for depression. https://t.co/CZU3wqhcFn

Before Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman checked himself in to the hospital for clinical depression in February, he walked the halls of the Senate stone-faced and dressed in formal suits. These days, he’s back to wearing the hoodies and gym shorts he was known for before he became a senator.
Male senators are expected to wear a jacket and tie on the Senate floor, but Fetterman has a workaround. He votes from the doorway of the Democratic cloakroom or the side entrance, making sure his “yay” or “nay” is recorded before ducking back out. In between votes this past week, Fetterman’s hoodie stayed on for a news conference with four Democratic colleagues in suits, the 6-foot-8 Fetterman towering over his colleagues.
Can we just talk about how silly that first paragraph is? “He walked the halls of the Senate stone-faced and dressed in formal suits,” the AP proclaims, as if he was some storied statesman, slaving away in the halls of Congres for decades going by the description provided. Fetterman wore suits for what amounted to a few weeks before his first trip to the hospital. It’s rather pathetic that the press is pretending that was some hardship.
Moving past that, the second paragraph is even worse. Fetterman is so obsessed with not abiding by the Senate’s dress code, which basically consists of “don’t be a slob,” that he won’t even appear on the floor during votes. He’s literally shouting his votes from the hallway. All that so he can wear gym shorts and a hoodie like he’s some oppressed teenager.
That isn’t normal no matter how much spin the press attempts to provide on the matter. Adults do not act that way. They don’t refuse to abide by a basic dress code for the Senate floor, only to scream their votes from the doorway before ducking back out.
Think about that. Is Fetterman truly so emotionally fragile that he can’t dress better than your average hobo without relapsing? And if he is, then what in the world is he doing in the US Senate? Shouldn’t he be resigning so he can focus on his health and family?
The Senate is not supposed to be a rehab facility. It’s not supposed to be a place where we treat members as if they are children, letting them prance around in hoodies and gym shorts while skirting the rules. Fetterman is already a guy who can’t formulate a sentence properly, leaving witnesses perplexed during hearings. But to continue to cater to his emotional issues is ridiculous. Are there really no standards anymore?
