If you had a somewhat normal high-school experience, you probably knew someone who thought they were much more popular than they really were and carried themselves with a completely unearned sense of arrogance. You know, that guy who doesn’t get invited to the lake house and then claims he actually turned everyone else down.

In terms of states, California is that guy. The deep blue state, after never being invited in the first place, has decided to ban government travel to fully one-third of states at this point, and their latest target is the free state of Florida.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — California added five more states, including Florida, to the list of places where state-funded travel is banned because of laws that discriminate against members of the LGBTQ community, the state attorney general announced Monday.

Democratic Attorney General Rob Bonta added Florida, Arkansas, Montana, North Dakota and West Virginia to the list that now has 17 states where state employee travel is forbidden except under limited circumstances.

“Make no mistake: We’re in the midst of an unprecedented wave of bigotry and discrimination in this country — and the State of California is not going to support it,” Bonta said.

Oh no! How will Florida ever survive this?!

So what’s this all about? Well, California seems to think it can bully other states that dare to stop boys from competing in girls’ sports. Yes, this is yet another freak out over the number of “transgender sports” bills that have passed recently in various red states. Gov. Ron DeSantis caused a lot of consternation at the beginning of June by signing such a bill in Florida, and now they’ve been added to the list (see Teeth Are Gnashed After Ron DeSantis Makes a Move on the First Day ‘Pride Month’).

You’d think California, which is currently dealing with a drought, wildfire issues, exploding homelessness, and a deepening violent crime problem would be too busy to waste time virtue signaling, but when Democrats are in charge, there’s always time. In fact, the distraction is the point. The leadership in California, starting with Gov. Gavin Newsom, has been an abject failure when it comes to things that actually matter. Given that, they know their political survival rests on throwing red meat to their largely left-leaning voters.

Because who really cares about high unemployment and gang violence in California when Florida is stopping boys from dominating girls in track thousands of miles away, right? Truly, these are the issues of our time.

The reality is that Floridians and the Florida government could not care less about whether some left-wing official from California comes to visit on their state’s dime. Further, why would they even have a reason to? This is yet another pointless move by elected officials that are clearly way in over their heads.
