The Border Situation Has Entered Dumpster Fire Territory, and Not a Mean Tweet in Sight

If you’ve been keeping up with the current crisis at the border the last few weeks, you know that things are spiraling further and further out of control. Facilities are far exceeding capacity, illegal immigrant children are being kept past the legal threshold, the drug cartels are thriving with the new business, and now taxpayers are on the hook for millions to rent hotel rooms.

In short, the situation has become a complete dumpster fire, to the extent it wasn’t already so a month ago. There is no hiding the seriousness of the situation anymore behind nakedly political rhetoric such as just calling it a “challenge.” The Biden administration is being forced to take ownership, even by the mainstream media, which is something I never thought I’d see.

But notice what you aren’t seeing. There’s not a mean tweet for as far as the eye can see. Donald Trump isn’t on Twitter dropping memes, clowning on CNN, or going after some Democrat. Peace has descended upon the land, at least for hacks who live inside the beltway.

For years, the left (and some on the right) relentlessly focused on Trump’s personality as if it overrode every policy concern. We were supposed to care about a 12-year-old affair over the economy, the border, and the broader determination of the culture. Regular voters, and the very real consequences they pay out in the land of normals, were just pawns to be used in a game of palace intrigue. Did you hear what this latest “anonymous source” said Trump did?! Oh, here’s another tell-all book about Trump not being nice in a private meeting!

Now, we are paying the price for such shallow, insipid idiocy. The border has deteriorated to a level of chaos not seen before in modern history. CBP is completely overwhelmed while being gagged by the Biden administration. Jen Psaki takes responsibility for nothing in her presser. Surrogates run around laughably trying to blame Donald Trump, whose tough policies had actually stabilized the border, for the current crisis. Everything is stupid, and it didn’t have to be this way.

Oh yeah, and gas and energy prices have exploded. If you lived in middle America last year, you were paying around $1.50-$1.70 a gallon on the day of the election. Now, you are paying at least a dollar more simply because Joe Biden decided to sign a bunch of restrictive executive orders making it harder to drill. Isn’t being dependent on foreign sources of energy just grand? If that doesn’t have you excited enough, though, we’ve also re-entered Syria, Iran is emboldened, and the administration says it probably won’t meet the set date for removing the remaining troops in Afghanistan. It’s truly a return to normalcy.

But no mean tweets, and isn’t that what truly matters here?
