This is almost too good to check, but nope, it’s real.

C-SPAN’s Steve Scully, who is set to moderate (I use that term loosely) the second presidential debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump has quite an interesting history with the former. Namely, he worked for Biden in college and has expressed support for him in numerous other social media postings. He also shared Never Trump material back in 2016.

He seems totally non-biased and ready to fairly referee a debate, right?

The second presidential debate, scheduled for October 15, will be moderated by Steve Scully, the political editor at C-SPAN and host of Washington Journal, who once worked as an intern for Senator Joe Biden in college, later working as a staff assistant in Sen. Edward M. Kennedy’s communication office.

“While attending college, he served as an intern in the office of Delaware Sen. Joseph R. Biden, and later a staff assistant in Sen. Edward M. Kennedy’s media affairs office,” Utah Valley University noted.

There’s no question Scully is a Democrat. But doesn’t it seem to be a bit much that he’d be allowed to moderate a debate between someone he’s shown disdain for and another man that he interned for? I’m trying to think of a reverse situation here, where a former Republican operative is allowed to moderate a debate that includes a person he worked for and I’m coming up blank.

Scully has also shown a warmness for Biden much more recently than just college.

He also shared Never Trump porn when Trump was running against Hillary Clinton because that’s what unbiased journalists do or something.

Perhaps Scully will be a consummate professional, but I sort of doubt it. The bigger point here is that this would not be a setup that any Democrat would ever agree to. Yet, Republicans continue to get the short end of the stick in these debates cycle after cycle. Why is it the default that Democrat partisans get to moderate all the debates? That includes Chris Wallace, who may work for Fox News, but is still left of center at best.

It’s too late to change anything this go around, but Republicans need to grow a backbone on this topic eventually. If the council that sets up these debates wants only biased journalists to moderate, then tell them to go jump in a lake. Rarely do these crap shows benefit anyone anyway.

I’m sure some on the right will assure us that Scully will handle things properly, but they said the same thing about Wallace. How’d that turn out? Here, click this link if you want to find out. The short answer is that it didn’t turn out well. At the end of the day, these Democrats can’t turn it off. They will always be hacks, whether in their direct speech, in their questioning, or both.

You can expect plenty of important omissions at the next debate while Trump is once again pressed on white supremacy because everything is stupid. It didn’t have to be this way.
