Dr. Fauci took another step in his rise to fame today by throwing out the first pitch for the Washington Nationals. Why someone who I’m assured doesn’t seek the spotlight, doesn’t care about politics, and is only in it for the science is throwing out the first pitch at a baseball game, I’m not sure. But here we are.
Much like Fauci’s pandemic leadership, the pitch didn’t go very well. That’s about the kindest way I can put it.
Welp. Fauci’s first pitch was about as accurate as his pandemic advice pic.twitter.com/zDiQEEqIDI

I can only assume Fauci is about to be invited on every national news show to give instruction on the proper pitching technique. pic.twitter.com/kAJtdn2N57

I have no idea what happened to his arm at the end there. Apparently, throwing a baseball is much tougher than bloviating and contradicting one’s self on CNN. Also, why is he wearing a mask to throw a baseball with no one within 60 feet of him? He’s also outside, where the virus has shown almost no ability to spread, so when he walks back to the dugout, he’s again in no danger.
I mean, I know why he’s wearing it. I just think it’s silly. Is there a person in this country that formerly wasn’t wearing a mask that will see Fauci and think, “you know, I should wear a mask.” Of course not, but virtue signaling replaces sound policy every time in Washington D.C.

Meanwhile, Trump did a bit of trolling by playing catch in a much more effective fashion with Mariano Rivera on the White House lawn.

Good form and follow through there from the President. I’m sure we’ll get a bunch of breathless news reports about the lack of masks, but again, they are outdoors.
Dr. Fauci probably should have taken stock of his abilities before going to the mound tonight. At least throw a few practice pitches before the game or something. Regardless, the fact that he’s there at all doesn’t bolster the case of those who claim he doesn’t love all this attention. Every indication says he is eating up all the fawning over him, from throwing first pitches at MLB games, to doing magazine spreads. This is his time. His contradictions and bad advice that have cost so much are just no big deal.
