Joe Biden Bends Space and Time, Goes Back to Calling Trump's Virus Response 'Xenophobic'

Joe Biden, apparently not remembering his previous messaging change, is back to calling Trump’s coronavirus response “xenophobic.” You may recall him using that term back in January, when he came out against the travel bans being put in place. Some months later, he would flip-flop, claiming that Trump didn’t ban travel soon enough.

We’ve come full circle though.

Joe Biden accused President Trump of fanning “the flames of hate” during the coronavirus pandemic.

“The pandemic has unleashed familiar forces of hate, fear and xenophobia that he always flames … that have always existed in this society,” Biden said in a speech on Monday, The Hill reported. “But this president brought it with him, has brought with it a new rash of racial messages, verbal and physical attacks and other acts of hate, some subtle, some overt, against the Asian American and Pacific Islanders.”

The statements came from a pandering session to Asian American and Pacific Islanders, which is sort of an odd combination to address if the issue is Trump going after China. Does Biden believe Hawaiians or those living on Guam hold solidarity with communist China? That kind of assumption almost seems sort of racist, doesn’t it?

I suspect there’s something deeper here though. Joe Biden has a big soft spot for the CCP and he’s worn that on his shoulder throughout his career. Just a few years ago, the former VP gave a speech in which he chastised anyone who thought normalizing China and empowering them was a bad idea. It’s not surprising that his knee jerk response would be to defend them in this case, even when they are obviously the villain of the situation.

Biden, never being one for honesty, also tried to use a recent exchange between Trump and an Asian CBS reporter to claim racism.

Biden also raised an exchange between Trump and an Asian American reporter during a White House briefing last week as evidence of the president’s racist views.

“We deserve better than a president who aggressively and childishly insults Asian American reporter. Think of that, the president of the US for the whole world to see, insults an Asian American reporter in the Rose Garden for doing her job and asking a direct question. You deserve a partner and a friend in the White House,” Biden said.

It’s worth nothing that Trump did not insult the reporter. She asked a question designed to deflect blame from China and the President told her to go ask them why so many are dying. It’s a quip he’s used to challenge many non-Asian reporters who’ve attempted similar gambits. But Biden likely never even saw the exchange, as he’s more likely to be napping in his basement at this point than actually writing his own speeches.

The Biden campaign is just all over the place. There’s no congruent message, no well thought out game plan. It’s just some advisors playing woke Mad Libs and sticking them in a teleprompter. That’s how you go from Biden claiming xenophobia for a rationale decision to shut down travel, to Biden claiming travel wasn’t shut down soon enough, to Biden going back to the xenophobia well some months later.

Perhaps the person most disappointed with the recent re-openings and the sense that things will return to normal this summer (in most areas at least) is Joe Biden. He’s not going to be able to hide behind live streams for much longer, though he’s managed to screw most of those up as well. Seeing this man actually have to stick to a campaign schedule is going to be just brutal to watch.
