Remember when Jonathan Karl took some swipes at Jim Acosta a few weeks ago? While that was nice and all, it’s important to remember that he’s still just as liberal as he’s always been.

Enter Dr. Deborah Birx, who managed to expose the ABC reporter’s shoddy journalism yesterday after he attempted to paint California as protecting people while the White House wasn’t. You can almost see the shift in her demeanor this last week, as she’s seemingly begun to lose patience with the constant misleading or outright falsely framed questions.

Here’s the clip.

The breaking with “CDC guidance” in this case was supposedly that California cares so much more than the White House that they are testing for asymptomatic people in nursing homes. Karl’s question was designed to paint a picture of the President’s testing regime as inadequate and not protecting the most vulnerable.

Dr. Birx has to step in and correct everything about his framing. The current administration guidelines do, in fact, call for testing for asymptomatic cases, including in nursing homes and in poorer areas that may carry higher caseloads. California is simply doing what they’ve been instructed to do, not bucking Trump’s recommendations. These are basic facts that Karl should have known before presenting his question, which begs the question of where his assertion even came from.

Sometimes you need to be a hammer when it comes to dealing with these reporters, but I must admit that I enjoy seeing Dr. Birx nail them in a different, but just as effective way. It’s a good change of pace.
