Perhaps Mitch McConnell let him know that enough was enough? Or maybe Sen. Johnson was able to assuage the Utah Senator’s fears?

Either way, it looks like Sen. Mitt Romney is now poised to vote to allow a subpoena related to Burisma and Hunter Biden’s role there. This comes just a day after Romney complained that the investigation was political and that the Senate should be doing other things (see Mitt Romney Signals He’s Going to Scuttle the Biden-Burisma Senate Investigation).

Given how different this is to Romney’s rhetoric yesterday, it seems fairly probable that he was pulled aside by leadership and told that it’s time to stop. Romney has seemingly taken pleasure in sticking his finger in the eye of his own party since being elected, including conducting a media tour after voting to remove President Trump from office.

After supporting the Mueller investigation and the impeachment fiasco, had Romney come out and scuttled any investigation into Burisma, it would have (correctly) looked like he was only interested in targeting Trump. His reasoning was also ridiculous. All investigations into political figures will have the tinge of being political. Romney had none of those complaints when Trump was in the crosshairs and it’s not a reason to scuttle an investigation that could touch the Bidens now. If there’s evidence of wrongdoing, Johnson and his committee should move forward. Hunter Biden making $80,000 a month from Burisma while his father ran things in Ukraine is plenty enough evidence to look deeper.

Of course, this could just be Romney voting affirmative to talk to this consultant while he chooses to roadblock everything else. We’ll have to wait and see where this goes, but for the moment there appears to be some sanity restored.
