Irony Is Beheaded As Brian Stelter Joins HBO to Combat Fake News a Week After CNN Paid Millions In Lawsuit Over Fake News

Someone on Twitter quipped that this is like having Harvey Weinstein go after rapists. Yeah, that fits.

CNN’s Brian Stelter has teamed up with HBO to produce a documentary on the rise of “fake news.” In the project, Stelter will apparently cover the devestation caused by false stories, presumably without referencing his own network’s vast history of fake stories.

This per Breitbart.

After Truth: Disinformation and the Cost of Fake News will examine the phenomenon of “fake news” in the age of social media and the impact that the trend has on average citizens, according to a release from WarnerMedia, the parent company of both CNN and HBO.

Brian Stelter is serving as an executive producer of the documentary, with Andrew Rossi directing. The CNN host said in a tweet Wednesday that he has been working on the project for “a couple of years.”

Stelter decided to violently kill irony with this venture, as his network just paid out a multi-million dollar settlement with Nick Sandmann, who was falsely attacked by CNN as a racist during the Covington Catholic ordeal. CNN settled the lawsuit instead of going to court knowing the discovery would be brutal and that they’d risk losing the case.

You’d think the guy shilling for the above network that just paid millions for spreading fake news wouldn’t be leading up a documentary on fake news, but that’s the state of our mainstream media.

CNN isn’t a one time offender either. Numerous stories during the Mueller probe turned out to be false, including saying that James Comey was going to accuse Trump of lying during his 2017 Congressional testimony. Just recently, Manu Raju, who’s at the center of a spat with Sen. Martha McSally, published a story that was completely false. There’s been no retraction or apology. CNN was also guilty of putting out a fake story that Donald Trump Jr. had coordinated with Wikileaks. In reality, CNN had misread the dates because they have zero editorial standards.

As Breitbart noted, one of the networks biggest screw ups involved a 2017 story about Trump officials and a Russian investment fund. That was also untrue.

There is no one less qualified to decry fake news than Brian Stelter and CNN.
