Kamala Harris is an interesting political case. Not because she herself is actually interesting, but because of how she’s been so totally manufactured as a candidate. She is consistently painted as prizefighting politician in the media, always just on the precipice of taking over the Democratic primary. In reality, she continues to languish in fourth place.

Take this comment after the debate last night from Van Jones on CNN.

What has Kamala Harris done to show that she’s so vicious that no one can “lay a glove on her?”

If you’ll recall after the last debate, her myth only grew, with many pundits predicting she’d overtake Joe Biden. Even the gambling sites were convinced, placing her at the top of the odds to be the nominee.

Here’s what I wrote at the time in response to all the hype.

With all due respect to the top oddsmakers, that’s incredibly stupid. Debates rarely have such a dramatic effect so as to boost someone languishing in the mid single digits above a guy who’s pushing 40%. In this case, it was a 2 minute exchange. Harris did not dominate the rest of the debate and actually may have alienated some voters by tacking so far left.

Harris, despite all the media fawning and selfies with Mika, is still a sucker’s bet at this point.

It’s all fun and games when it’s a layup on racial issues and Harris gets to savage a barely lucid Joe Biden. Things get tougher when the attacks start coming back at you, though, and that’s exactly what happened last night.

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, mostly known for her controversial views on Bashar Assad, is playing a role similar to Chris Christie in 2016. She knows her chances are extremely low so the plan is not to take down the frontrunner but to make herself attractive as an official in a Biden administration. That means going after someone like Harris and Gabbard did it masterfully in front of 10 million people.

I highly encourage you to watch the clip. You aren’t going to get a sense of how bad it was unless you do. Here’s a description though, via The Washington Examiner.

Clearly, Gabbard had done her homework, and she absolutely dragged Harris for her abysmal record as California attorney general. During her time in office, Harris took draconian stances on issues of criminal justice, enforcing such merciless policies and displaying such ruthless ambition that “Kamala the cop” has become a common criticism of the candidate.

Gabbard attacked Harris for having locked up thousands of people for mere marijuana possession and laughing about it when asked whether she had smoked pot herself. The congresswoman piled onto Harris, adding on a reference to her office’s shameful move to keep people locked up to preserve “cheap labor for the state of California.”

This is all true, and here are the receipts. But Gabbard didn’t stop there.

The Hawaii congresswoman also called out Harris for the fact that while attorney general, she fought to keep people incarcerated despite exonerating evidence and fought to preserve the unfair system of cash bail.

Gabbard hit Harris on all points, including her targeting of parents for truancy violations of their children. While those of us on the Republican side may actually agree with some of Harris’ tougher stances before she tried to transform herself into a social justice warrior, the point here is political, not ideological. In a Democratic primary, what Gabbard did was brutally effective. The left’s views on criminal justice are getting more and more radical by the day.

The image of “Harris the cop” is not the meme the former California AG wants floating around. It’s like nails on a chalkboard to most of the Democrat base.

Another thing this attack did was shield Biden from one of his biggest weaknesses, that being that he was not a crazy person in the 90s and supported measures to bring down skyrocketing crime rates (which worked BTW). Harris has tried to go after the former VP on that at times, but with her record so thoroughly vetted on national TV, there’s noway she can do so now without inviting a much stronger counter punch.

Harris was exposed last night. She’s mechanical, way too rehearsed, and is deeply unlikable. A consummate politician, and I mean that in the most negative connotation. Tulsi Gabbard is not a heavy weight herself, but she left Harris stammering last night, unable to respond in any effective fashion.

I haven’t bought into Harris from the beginning and nothing I saw last night has changed my mind.
