This is how you know you Alexandria-Ocasio Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley aren’t serious about their constant emotional appeals regarding the border. The “fresh faces” of the Democratic party are all about making Twitter rants and posing for glamour shots, but when it comes to actually helping solve the problem, they are there to work against those trying to fix the situation.
The aforementioned four were the only Democrats to vote against the Border Security funding bill that passed the House yesterday.
All but four Democrats backed the legislation. The lone dissenters: liberal freshman Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.)https://t.co/HwewLwAsOq

To be clear, this is not comparable to other votes against relief packages by Republicans and Democrats in the past. In those cases, and I’m struggling to find any examples otherwise, the bills themselves were laced with unrelated poison pills leading to protest votes.
In the case of this border funding package, there was no poison pill. In fact, it’s largely a cave by Republicans in terms of priorities (linked is the Senate bi-partisan bill, the House bill is even worse) and doesn’t even increase bed counts for CBP. The bill itself is only $4.5B and there are no unrelated amendments tacked on to make it untenable for a Democrat to vote for.
Even still, the fresh face caucus voted against it. Why?
Good luck getting an answer to that because the media won’t dare ask them, but it’s not hard to figure out. These people do not want a solution to what’s going on at the border. It gives them a political issue to bat around. When the cameras are on, they feign outrage and proclaim a humanitarian crisis. Then they go cry about Wayfair providing beds for children’s facilities and block funding for basic necessities.
Everyone knows you can’t just let people cross the border unchecked. How is letting unaccompanied minors wander the streets humane, for example? Reality dictates they must be detained and found safe situations to be sent to. Yet, these four Congressional members are calling for a total closing of the facilities housing them. What’s their actual plan? They don’t have one except to grandstand and post tone-deaf pictures of themselves crying at the border.
It’s just disgustingly manipulative and incredibly harmful for those actually needing resources at the border, whether we are talking about CBP or the illegal immigrants themselves.
