To normal people who don’t view abortion as a righteous sacrifice, this is a good thing. But to the left-wing base of the Democrat primary, this could be pretty bad news for Biden.

A video from 2006 has surfaced, dug up by CNN, that shows Biden not only personally opposing abortion, but has him specifically saying it’s not a right.

“I’m a little bit of an odd man out in my party,” Biden said. “I do not vote for funding for abortion. I voted against partial birth abortion — to limit it — and I vote for no restrictions on a woman’s right to be able to have an abortion under Roe v. Wade. And, so I am — I made everybody angry. I made the right-to-life people angry because I won’t support a constitutional amendment or limitations on a woman’s right to exercise her constitutional right as defined by Roe v. Wade. And I’ve made the groups — the women’s groups and others — very angry because I won’t support public funding and I won’t support partial birth abortion.”

Biden also said he would have difficulty navigating the issue in a Democratic presidential field.

“It’s going to be very difficult,” Biden said. “I do not view abortion as a choice and a right. I think it’s always a tragedy, and I think that it should be rare and safe, and I think we should be focusing on how to limit the number of abortions. There ought to be able to have a common ground and consensus as to do that.”

I, for one, completely agree with Mr. Biden here. Abortion is not a choice or right and should not be treated as such. It’s the taking of innocent life and that’s a tragedy. We should absolutely do everything we can to limit and eventually eliminate it (outside of medical emergencies).

The problem is that no one in the Democrat party thinks that way today. At least not on the national stage.

Of course, Biden has thoroughly flip-flopped on the issue in the past week because he’s your typical listless, dumpster fire of a politician who will say or do anything to get elected. A little over ten years ago, he didn’t even think abortion is a right. Today, he’s saying U.S. taxpayers should pay for it. Try to make sense of that.

CNN and other outlets reporting the video are doing their best to downplay it, describing Biden’s about face as an “evolution.” The mainstream press do not want the former VP to be damaged because he is the preferred candidate of the more “moderate” liberal talking heads. Dig deeper into the left-wing press though and things start to get sketchier. HuffPost, for example, wrote a piece today about his “shaky record on reproductive rights,” which is typical Orwellian speak for killing babies in the womb.

Here’s why this matters.

Right now, Biden is in hiding. He pops his head out every few weeks and gives a low energy speech that he barely manages to remain lucid for. But pretty soon, he’s going to be taking punches from Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders on this issue. Anyone think they won’t go hard at Biden over once saying abortion isn’t a right? They are going to absolutely destroy him because the current Democrat primary field is rabidly, disgustingly pro-abortion up until the moment of birth (and perhaps beyond if you could ever get a straight answer on failed abortions).

Biden better enjoy the calm while it lasts because he can’t run from his record. The left-wing wants blood and they are going to get it when the debate season starts.
