Recently, a poll came out showing that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s approval rating was just above potted meat. This was followed by another poll of New York state showing they didn’t like her very much either.

Well, she’s finally figured out why. It’s not she’s an abrasive, divisive personality who’s policy positions are absolutely insane (and dangerous). In fact, it’s not her fault at all. You see, it’s really just that all those people responding to the poll are racist and sexist.

It’s only by her superior intellect that she was able to see this while the rest of us missed it.

When “centrists” care more about the GOP base than the Dem base, bigotry gets legitimized.

This is *the* playbook. GOP does it w/ virtually every Dem figure who isn’t a white male: otherize, demonize + splinter.

We can’t gloss over it, or quietly consider that the “shrewd” thing to do is nominate someone who won’t be subject to bigoted attacks.

Morally, we can’t give a pass to this dangerous tactic.

But even politically, the Dem base is all the people you demoralize by not standing up.

What the heck does “cow to it” mean?

But yes, clearly the fact that she’s Latino is why she gets so much push back. It’s not the wanting to ban cars or shilling for the complete destruction of the economy. No, it’s because her skin is a few shades darker than your average white guy from Portland. The irony of that is that she would almost certainly not be in Congress right now if she weren’t 1) Latino and 2) mildly attractive. Instead of recognizing that her identity has actually helped her, she’s whining about it as if she’s oppressed (Fact Check: She’s not).

Her tweets came in response to a thread by someone named David Atkins, who let us all know that it was really Fox News and rampant bigotry behind Ocasio-Cortez’ plummeting approval.

In all seriousness, this is typical of most Democrats. It’s always someone else’s fault. No amount of disapproval is ever a indictment of their policies. We saw this with the Obamacare debate some years ago, where Democrat politicians (and their media supporters) constantly told us that it was only unpopular because it hadn’t been marketed right.

No, sometimes your ideas are just trash. In Ocasio-Cortez’s case, it appears most of the country aren’t down for banning fossil fuels or giving people not willing to work a guaranteed wage. It also appears that her own constituents didn’t take too kindly to her running off $25B in investment via Amazon.

What all this means for her in 2020 is anyone’s guess. I’d suspect a primary challenge is coming. In the meantime, I’m just going to enjoy watching it all burn down.
