All it took to unify the white nationalist and socialist movements in this country was a mutual penchant for anti-semitism. Who knew? Ok, we all knew.

Illogical, racist hate of Israel is apparently a strong bonding agent. If you’ve been under a rock the past few months, Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar has once again found herself in hot water (but not really because she’s a Democrat and too intersectional) after she flung more anti-Semitic tropes around in a half-coherent rant about those who support Israel and it’s right to exist.
Her comments, per NPR:
“I want to talk about the political influence in this country that says it is OK for people to push for allegiance to a foreign country. I want to ask why is it OK for me to talk about the influence of the NRA (National Rifle Association), of fossil fuel industries or Big Pharma, and not talk about a powerful lobbying group that is influencing policies?”
This is another version of the “dual loyalty” smear she’s travelled in before. In her view, anyone who supports Israel, specifically American Jews, are guilty of allegiance to a foreign country or are being bought off (see her previous comments). She of course doesn’t apply this same standard to American Muslims who support Islamic theocracies around the world nor Democratic Congressional members such as herself who go to bat for dictators in Venezuela. Odd, right?
In response to Ilhan Omar’s anti-semitism and continued questioning of Israel’s right to exist, she’s now finding herself in common company with racist and former KKK member, David Duke. In a recent tweet, he calls her “the most important member of the U.S. Congress.” I must say, the heart eyes emoji he used toward her a nice touch.
While I’m not big on guilt by association (Omar has no problem assigning guilt to herself all on her own), it should be noted that Duke has been repeatedly used to badger politicians on the right, all of which quickly renounced Duke and any support he may have signaled. Will Omar be asked to do the same or nah?
When Duke endorsed a Laura Ingraham monologue, it caused a minor media sensation and she swiftly denounced him — Keep an eye on who tweets/covered that but not this

Meanwhile, Ilhan Omar is being let off the hook by her fellow Democrats, who’ve now decided to not name her in response and instead push an “all lives matter” style resolution against general “hate.” It’s probably just a matter of time before David Duke becomes a Muslim so he too can partake in unchecked anti-Semitism. I’m only half-joking.
