The Trump administration's war against fraud marches on. Why does it always seem like Minnesota, California, or Massachusetts are the stars of these stories?
In this case, it’s the Bay State — MA — and not only were a bunch of no-goods stealing taxpayer dollars, but most of the suspects were in this country illegally.
A nationwide welfare fraud crackdown reached Massachusetts this week, as federal authorities announced the arrests of 15 people — 11 of them illegal immigrants — accused of stealing more than $1.4 million in American taxpayer-funded benefits.
The defendants are accused of fraudulently obtaining benefits through programs including Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) food assistance, MassHealth, Social Security disability payments, housing assistance and unemployment benefits, according to the Department of Justice.

First Assistant Attorney General for the National Fraud Enforcement Division, Colin McDonald: “Alarmingly, 11 of the 15 charged defendants are suspected illegal aliens, some of whom assumed stolen identities to steal these taxpayer-funded benefits and avoid detection.”

U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley said it’s just the tip of the iceberg:
“As we have said before, we are just beginning to scratch the surface,” Foley said during a press briefing at the federal courthouse in Boston. “We have dozens and dozens of fraud cases in the pipeline and numerous ongoing investigations involving systemic large-scale fraud schemes.”
Massachusetts appears to be an all-you-can-eat buffet for fraudsters, Foley said in a press release from the Justice Department. That ends now:
“There isn’t any place else in the world where you can go and be handed free food, free housing, free healthcare and free monthly checks, while being in the country illegally. However, it appears that you can come to Massachusetts and steal as many benefits as you want without fear and without any accountability. This is all ending on my watch.

Apparently, rampant fraud has become a way of life in many of these states, and officials like Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, California’s Gavin Newsom, and Massachusetts’ Maura Healey are all too quick to just look the other way. Looks like the Trump administration will have to continue to do the job that they can’t seem to manage.
