Once Flying High in the Next CA Gov's Race, Porter's in a Nosedive With Voters Thanks to Another Dem

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA-14) throwing his hat into the California governor's race has been bad news for former Congresswoman Katie Porter. According to the latest Emerson College poll, she is sinking like a stone.

Former Rep. Katie Porter is sinking in the polls as the race to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom gets downright claustrophobic.

Support for Porter, the former Orange County congresswoman who’s been labeled a tyrant by a former staffer and her ex-husband, has slipped to 11% of voters surveyed by Emerson College in a new poll released Thursday.

The poll suggests splintering support for Porter and others in the crowded primary field after the entry of East Bay Rep. Eric Swalwell and Tom Steyer, the billionaire climate activist.

Since October we have watched as the egregious Porter's campaign to become California's first female governor has had one oppo hit after another. Video drops of her behavior toward press and staffers show just how entitled and volatile she becomes when put on the spot, confronted with tough questions, or asked follow-up questions.

Katie Porter's Ex-Husband Breaks His Silence, It's As Bad As You'd Expect. Will It Matter in Election?

Her horrible treatment of her staffers and her ex-husband further show that she is not just a terrible candidate, but a pretty awful human. Porter is also not well-liked by her own party. California Democrat Party elders, including Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA-11), are definitely not Team Porter

The Bay Area Cabal opposes Porter because she is not a team player. In 2023 Porter preempted the late Senator Dianne Feinstein, then 89 years old, announcing her senate campaign. Feinstein’s forced retirement offended Feinstein and the Democrat establishment that only whispered Feinstein’s health had been declining for a decade, when they first offered to Feinstein to again run for governor in 2010 and open her seat for Newsom. Her colleague, former Senator Barbara Boxer is also from the Bay, retired in 2016 and was succeeded by Harris.

Porter’s additional offenses are enumerated by former Democrat Representative Harley Rouda in the Orange County Register. In addition to describing Porter as an abusive self-centered “bully with a white board,” Rouda criticized Porter for barely winning a seat redistricted for her, costing Democrats a congressional seat in Los Angeles (CA-27; Loss), and potentially two more in Orange County (CA-47; Hold and SD-37; Loss). As one of the most junior of the elderly California delegation, and a competitive district, Porter was supposed to “wait her turn.”

Above all Porter does not follow orders. Speaker Emerita Pelosi is the party boss, was close to Feinstein, and selected then Representative Adam Schiff as Feinstein’s successor. Although a backbencher from Southern California, Schiff was senior, his seat safe, and gained prominence opposing the first Trump Administration. Porter eventually finished third for U.S. Senate with 15% of the vote and then broke silence against California’s “rigged” political machine that included Schiff promoting Republican Steve Garvey.

It is almost a surety that CA Dems greenlit all of the oppo hits against Porter. When that didn't tank her enough, Swalwell entered the race in order to be a spoiler, and he's doing a great job of curdling the milk.

Despite Pelosi having the reins on party leadership, there is also an underlying misogyny that exists in the CA Democrat Party, especially among the donor class. Look at how they have treated their star: former Vice President and presidential candidate Kamala Harris versus current CA Gov. Gavin Newsom. Both politicians have been absolute disasters, failed up in every position given them, and while both are progressive stalwarts, when it comes to persuading the general electorate that they care about things that actually matter to them, they are absolute disasters. Yet one person continues to be platformed and propped up as the 2028 Democrat nominee for president, while the other keeps getting pushed to the margins, despite refusing to go gently into that good night.

I guess Swalwell can enjoy today, but folks know he slept with many of his interns while married, sexually harassed others while engaged, has a ton of weird texts late at night saved on former interns phones still, he gets he will have to answer for his later on during the campaign, right?  Endorse at your own peril people.  Yo [sic] have been fully warned, just doing my public service today.

The facts: Swalwell has zero chance of being the Democrat nominee for California governor, and even less chance of beating Republican Steve Hilton or Sheriff Chad Bianco. His alleged affair with Chinese spy Fang Fang notwithstanding, the man is more of a walking oppo dump than Porter. But the fact that this awkward, personality-devoid, pervy spy dupe has bypassed Porter in the polls is not only telling, but an indicator of the crisis that exists in the Democrat Party.

If things continue in this vein, California may just elect a Republican governor after all.
