Gross—Former NYC Mayor de Blasio Shows His True Colors, Endorses Socialist Mamdani for His Old Job

Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio revealed his true colors, or color, I should say—and it’s red.

In a Tuesday op-ed for the New York Daily News, the wacky former head of the Big Apple endorsed one of the most radical politicians to get this far in American politics, democrat socialist Zohran Mamdani, who defeated former Gov. Andrew Cuomo for the Democrat mayoral nomination in late June. The general election is slated for November, where he will face off against current Mayor Eric Adams, running as an independent, and Cuomo again, this time running as an independent too.

We’ve extensively detailed Mamdani’s radical anti-capitalist, full-on Marxist vision for NYC (and America), but none of that seems to matter to de Blasio. In the timeless phrasing of Frank and Moon Zappa from their 1980s hit, “Valley Girl," gag me with a spoon:

He [Mamdani] is asking if anything short of bold sweeping action will save the essence of this place. He has run on an agenda that puts working people first — a rent freeze for more than two million tenants, universal child care for all kids 6 weeks to 5-year-olds, faster and free buses. It’s an agenda that won him a historic Democratic primary victory this past June, as an unprecedented coalition of New Yorkers stood up and demanded more from the city government…

I can say definitely — and I know better than anyone — that the answer is yes.

'He's An Idiot': New Yorkers Asked About Mamdani, and Their Answers Speak Volumes

Sure, Bill, ignore that socialist policies have led to failure and death virtually wherever they’ve been tried, but Mamdani will be different.

Of course, de Blasio doesn’t have much to brag about, as crime and homelessness rose under his watch while relations with the police went south and ethics complaints plagued him like bedbugs. His leadership style wasn’t exactly something to emulate either; even the liberal rag Vox admitted in 2019, “De Blasio can come off as sanctimonious, arrogant, stubborn, and preachy about the gravity and scope of what he’s doing.” Ya think?

Who could ever forget this moment?

De Blasio went on in his op-ed to explain to readers that his reign was actually an enormous success, despite everyone’s memories of it. Then he goes all in for socialism:

We don’t just need Zohran Mamdani to be our mayor because he has the right ideas, or because they can be achieved. We need him because in his heart and in his bones he cannot accept a city that prices out the people who built it and keep it running.

We’ve proven before that the extraordinary power of the New York City government can actually start to fix what’s broken for working people, that we could actually put them first. It’s time to do it again — and go even further — with Zohran Mamdani.

Who cares if he has the “right ideas” (he doesn’t)—his heart and bones are in the right place. Sorry, but that’s not how you run a family, a business, or a government. Maybe Mao and Stalin’s hearts were in the right place, too, but that doesn’t mean their ideas weren’t civilization killers.

If you want to see NYC go further down the tubes, vote Mamdani. His slogan could be, “Even More extreme than Bill de Blasio, but with his heart and bones in the right place!”

Maybe someone should remind Bill of the old proverb: "The road to hell is paved with good intentions."

Editor’s Note: Zohran Mamdani is an avowed Democratic Socialist and has a real chance to become the next mayor of New York City.
