As we’ve reported, Americans were outraged when they learned Wednesday that illegal alien Oscar Eduardo Ortega-Anguiano, who killed two teens in a drunken, drugged-out driving spree, was being let loose in California after serving only 3.5 years out of his 10-year sentence. The Trump administration then stepped in to make up for the Golden State’s failures and announced they were going to slap Ortega-Anguiano with federal charges that could keep him behind bars for up to 20 years.

Then an odd thing happened: uber-left Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a high-minded statement saying that his state, a sanctuary state that is notoriously welcoming to illegal immigrants and which generally refuses to cooperate with federal authorities, was of course going to help rectify the situation.
But there was one line in the statement that caught the eye of Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer: “A GOP DA then gave him a plea deal instead of pursuing 2nd-degree murder.”
After being deported in 2013, this individual unlawfully re-entered the US & committed heinous crimes.

Typical Newsom: blame anyone but his own self and his destructive progressive policies. The governor is full of it, Spitzer charged:

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer released the… pic.twitter.com/583eKXPMf2
Spitzer described how California’s soft-on-crime laws paved the way for this tragedy, and how his office had lobbied for years to strengthen penalties for violent criminals. Decades of "progressive" criminal-loving legislation is the root of the problem, Spitzer argued:
Years of California’s crusade to put the rights of criminals over the rights of victims has resulted in the unimaginable pain inflicted on the grief-stricken parents of 19-year-old Anna M. and 19-year-old Nicholay O. who had to be told that the man who killed their children while driving drunk and high at more than 100 miles per hour is considered a “non-violent” offender under California law, is eligible for early release, and will serve less than 50 percent of his sentence.
Killing two human beings while drunk is anything but non-violent.
He then went nuclear on Newsom and laid the blame squarely at his feet:
California’s creative concoction of good time, education, and other credits has resulted in criminals being released quicker than ever before, fulfilling Governor Newsom’s plot to empty California’s prisons and put dangerous and violent felons back on the street.
This is not a failure by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. It is another stab to the heart of victims across California by Governor Newsom and a state Legislature who are hell-bent on releasing as many criminals as possible without any accountability and without any punishment.
And Californians are paying the price.
Once again, the governor looks to pass the buck and act like Mr. Reasonable when he is actually an extreme leftist. Spitzer's powerful rebuke is spot on, and good for him for calling out Newsom's nonsense.
