'Blood and Bravery': Trump Drops Powerful Video About US Sacrifices in Greenland During WWII

I admit it—although I’m a political junkie and have lots of opinions on the disastrous Biden-Harris regime and Trump’s American renaissance, one territory was not at the forefront of my mind as I wrote articles and headed to the ballot box in November: Greenland.

Between COVID, inflation, Bidenomics, the existential threat to the U.S. posed by a potential Harris-Waltz administration, and more, Greenland just wasn’t on my hot topics list.

However, Trump quickly emphasized the lightly populated island, which is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, and argued that it should become part of the United States. Sometimes it’s been hard to tell how serious he is—is he joking or bluffing to get a minerals/security deal?

It’s clear he’s not joking about the fact that he wants something, because in January his son Don Jr. paid a visit to the frosty land, and on Friday Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha dropped in to tour military facilities.

Then Team Trump, known for some awe-inspiring videos, dropped this powerful clip on Friday, emphasizing the sacrifices American heroes made for the country in World War II:

The video reminds us of the costly efforts to protect Greenland during the Nazi aggressions of WWII:

The 90-second video touts past U.S. military efforts to defend and protect Greenland during World War II when the U.S. suffered hundreds of casualties after a Nazi U-boat torpedoed and sank the U.S. Army Transport Dorchester.

The U-boat struck in the dead of night on Feb. 3, 1943, killing dozens instantly while hundreds more succumbed to the icy waters of the Atlantic, according to the Defense Department. The incident is remembered four Army chaplains giving up their lives to save others.

The clip seems directed at not just reminding us of past American heroes but also highlighting the strategic importance of the Arctic as we face increased provocation from China and Russia.

"In the cold silence of the tundra, a bond was born. Not from treaties or trade, but from blood and bravery," the narrator of the clip says. "While Germany controlled Europe, the Nazis set their sights on the Arctic. Greenland became an unwitting combatant and the United States stepped in, not to conquer but to protect."

The video notes that nearly 1,000 service members, civilians and crew carried with them "hope, duty and a quiet fear" in a voyage they knew was rife with danger. But after the attack, the frigid waters of the North Atlantic "became a grave."

The video is not new; it was created by the non-profit Securing American Greatness during the 2024 presidential election. The fact that Trump is posting it now, however, shows that he’s not just joking about changing our relationship with Greenland to benefit the U.S., and he’s not going to walk away without some sort of deal.
