If you thought Joe Biden's approval rating had hit the bottom, you thought wrong -- because a new NBC News poll shows that it's plummeted to its lowest level yet at 37 percent, while huge numbers think that former President Donald Trump would do a better job on issues such as the economy and the border.
Overall, Trump leads Biden in the poll by 5 points among registered voters in a hypothetical 2024 general election matchup, 47 percent to 42 percent.
Today’s NBC News Poll is a real warning for Democrats. 73-22 wrong track. President Biden is at 60 disapprove (49 strongly) 37 approve (16 strongly). That is a three to one strongly disapprove margin. Among Republicans President Trump is ahead of Haley 79-19. Trump beats Biden…

Trump beats Biden 47-42. For Congress voters prefer a Republican Congress over a Democratic Congress 49-45. These are staggering numbers for Democrats. A positive, solutions oriented GOP could win a Reagan scale victory this fall.
The numbers are stark:
Biden trails GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump on major policy and personal comparisons, including by more than 20 points on which candidate would better handle the economy. And Biden’s deficit versus Trump on handling immigration and the border is greater than 30 points.
The poll also shows Trump holding a 16-point advantage over Biden on being competent and effective, a reversal from 2020, when Biden was ahead of Trump on this quality by 9 points before defeating him in that election.
It appears that a majority of Americans are finally realizing that our president is not capable of being commander-in-chief. At his best, Joe Biden was never an inspiring or particularly capable leader; but with his obvious mental decline, he's simply not equipped to perform his duties. He's almost always on vacation, and when he does show up for work, the results are disastrous.
He's not even up to handling cushy tasks like friendly interviews from a fawning press:

And while the president keeps telling us that Bidenomics is making American lives great again, the people beg to differ.
NEW: President Biden trails former President Trump by 22 points on handling of the economy in the latest NBC News national poll, says @SteveKornacki.@kwelkernbc: "The economy is so striking because jobs are up, inflation is down. Voters aren't giving [Biden] credit for that." pic.twitter.com/BBoy0tKDfr

The "voters aren't giving [Biden] credit for that" because they've seen rampant inflation eat away at their spending power, making most feel significantly poorer than when he took office.
But it's the border where Biden gets hit the hardest -- deservedly so.
Also in the poll, Trump has the edge on securing the border and controlling immigration (35 points over Biden), on having the necessary mental and physical health to be president (+23), on dealing with crime and violence (+21), on being competent and effective (+16), and on improving America’s standing in the world (+11). [Bolding mine.]
I love NBC's framing of that -- Biden "has the edge." A 35-point lead on the border is an "edge"? That's laugh-out-loud media bias right there.

Polls are polls, and we all know they can be untrustworthy; there are many months and roads to travel before November. Nevertheless, the magnitude of these numbers is eye-opening, and one can only imagine the panic in the White House right now.
They are losing, and just constantly screaming "MAGA bad!" may not be enough to save them.
Clarification: I originally wrote that 30 percent thought Trump would do a better job handling the border. The number is actually 57 percent; there's a 30-point differential between the two presidential candidates on the issue.
