For Democrats, Americans Voting for Republicans Must Be Punished

It's one of the many great scenes from the movie, A Christmas Story. Ralphie is lying in bed after getting a mouthful of Lifebouy red soap for uttering "the queen mother of dirty words." He envisions a future where he comes home and is blind due to "soap poisoning." His parents are heartbroken and will never forgive themselves. Yeah, that'll teach 'em. As kids, we all thought about getting back at our parents for something at least once. But normal people tend to grow out of that sort of thing and deal with life's wins and losses as they come along.

But not Democrats and the modern-day left. It is something that has always been present, but more and more, when things don't go their way, they have an insatiable need for someone to "pay," for one person or a group of people to be "punished" for their deeds. The most common form of this comes when Americans vote to put Republicans in power. When it happens, it is in no way looked at as a chance to re-evaluate what their message might be to the American people and how they might improve on it. Instead, it is a knee-jerk reaction to chastise Americans for their choice.

It seems like we have talked about Trump Derangement Syndrome forever. But for Democrats and the left, it didn't start with Trump. You can trace it back all the way to George W. Bush and "Bush Derangement Syndrome." Author Michelle Malkin, all the way back in in her 2005 book, "Unhinged - Exposing Liberals Gone Wild," recounted a conversation between then-Fox News Channel host Chris Wallace and former Democrat presidential candidate Howard Dean, where Dean implied that Bush knew ahead of time about 9/11 (Malkin, Unhinged, pg. 34). It was then that the beloved late conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer coined the "Bush Derangement Syndrome" (BDS) phrase.

But, of course, BDS has given way to Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS). Only the TDS virus has morphed into something even more unhinged. From the moment he came down the escalator in Trump Tower in 2015, Donald Trump and his supporters have faced a level of persecution that those early BDS adherents could only dream of.

While punishing Americans for their Republican votes seems to be the overarching goal, it goes deeper than that. When it happens, a collective temper tantrum any toddler would find impressive ensues. And that temper tantrum stems from an equally impressive entitlement mentality, where Democrats and the left firmly believe they should win every time, and if they don't, they are not the problem - the American people are.

In recent years, however, Democrats and the left have determined that punishment of the American people for their "incorrect vote" should come with some sort of cause. In 2020, it was George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement. But it didn't take long for the fact that the BLM movement had nothing to do with protecting black people from the police and everything to do with the temper tantrum (and money) to reveal itself.

Now, the latest cause du jour for the left is the "plight" of illegal immigrants and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers who are detaining them. This latest episode of what happens when the children don't get their way can be summed up in one word: Minneapolis. Hordes of leftist anti-ICE agitators swarming officers in every conceivable way, including, in the case of Renee Good, what appears to be attempted murder. But is this really about wanting to save illegal immigrants, or just the punishment the left can mete out on Americans?

Most parents don't give in to their toddler's tantrums. But Democratic lawmakers are completely on board. They have done their best to assist the leftist toddlers by making ICE agents the face of the cause. There is no shortage of elected officials calling ICE agents "Nazis," "Gestapo," "lawless thugs," and "secret police." Apparently, it makes the toddlers feel better when they can call the authority figures "meanies" and "boogerheads."

But the problem is, the temper tantrums and the entitlement mentality just keep getting worse. The last administration taught this crowd that there were no consequences to their actions. Now, the bigger problem appears to be that the tantrum ante is just being upped. And like it does for most toddlers, it will not end well.

For Democrats, Americans electing Republicans means they must make their lives miserable. For Americans, it may mean they are tired of the Democrat toddlers.
